Canadian singer Paul Anka shot to fame in 1956 at the age of 15 when he auditioned for Don Costa at ABC singing a song he had written for a girl he hardly knew. Diana, which became one of the biggest hits of the year and began the extraordinary career of artist whose versatility has ensured continued success both as a singer and as a hugely successful songwriter. He racked up a string of hits through the late '50s and early '60s, most them self-penned, as he proved that his early success was no flash in the pan, and that his talent encompassed rock 'n' roll as well as dramatic ballads and sophisticated mood music. This great value 60-track 2-CD set comprises the A and B sides of every single he released in the USA and UK during those frenetic first few years of his career, the success he was enjoying measured by the fact that thirty-five of those tracks registered in either the US or UK charts, his major hits, including Lonely Boy, I Love You Baby, You Are My Destiny and Put Your Head On My Shoulder. He is a highly individual artist, who defied many of the norms of the teen idol era, able to transcend the musical boundaries between the genres, and made a significant contribution to the music of the times

Excellent reissue
I am not really sure about labels like Acrobat, Jasmine, Not Now etc. In England they are often referred to as "Grey labels". Yes they are legal by British copyright laws which makes most anything over 50 years old pretty much fair game. On the other hand they put out excellent packages with great liner notes, sound and selection of material. They are certainly head and shoulders better than some of the earlier boot labels like Teenage., Marginal etc. Many like The moonglows, the Diamonds, and many others have have given me rare tracks I'd given up hope of ever hearing. Now to this CD. This is simply the best reissue of Paul Anka's early material I've ever seen. All of the singles are here, both sides and Paul had a lot of really good B sides. Every other collection I've ever seen usually includes some filler from his lps or worse some of his 70's hits(ugh).I am deducting one star because of a couple of errors mentioned in other reviews and I'd like to have seen more stereo content but realize that is just a personal preference.I'd love to hear from some artists like Anka who are still pretty active, but in the meantime I hope these labels keep it up as they are obviously put together by people who know and care about the music.

"The Real Paul Anka singles"
Finally a complete collection of his ABC Paramount singles, with one exception. The song I Love You in the Same Old Way(The flip side of Hello Young Lovers, is from an RCA recording, somebody missed that. Great booklet and very good sound.

Great Sound and well written notes (in a 20-page booklet) make this collection one heck of a bargain.
I’ve been enjoying some really nice reissue collections from the British label, Acrobat (distributed in the US by Music Video Distributors). They really cover all the genres of music but – because of British copyright laws - are limited to pre-1963 recordings. But, darn, there was so much neat music back then. This 2-CD set of Paul Anka recordings goes back even before his first hit “Diana” to his single on the Bihari brothers’ label, RPM. All the ABC Paramount singles are here and the ones on RCA through 1992. All are presented in chronological order and there is full discographic info in the book. The 13-page essay by Paul Watts is well researched and well written and (thankfully) is in a font size that can be easily read. The good news about the set including only the singles is that they eliminated many of the “filler” tracks from Anka’s Lps. But, of course, some of the “B” sides were sort of filler too. I guess you take the great with the not-so-great. Anyway, with a whopping 60 (!) tracks on 2 CDs you get a lot for your $ here with a list price of about $13.00! How’s the sound? REALLY nice!. I don’t know the source (I’m fairly sure it’s not the master tapes) but my original 45s (of which I still have some – somewhere!) never sounded as clean as these transfers!I hope for found this review both informative and helpful.Steve Ramm“Anything Phonographic”

Most of the tracks sound great and are obviously from original master tapes
As with other Acrobat label releases in this series, consistency is lacking. Most of the tracks sound great and are obviously from original master tapes. A few, however, sound awful, as if they were lifted from vinyl. "Don't Gamble With Love", "Rudolph" and "Far From The Lights of Town" are prime examples. Fortunately, these selections aren't that important to me but I'm shying away from any further purchases unless I can first preview each track I especially like.

Bitte ohne Weihnachtslieder
Ansonsten zwei tolle cds.
