This mortar and pestle was the perfect size that I needed. It’s not a lightweight either just the motor and pestle weighs in at 7 1/2 pounds if I removed the mortar it’s a little over 6 pounds so it tells you how heavy duty this marble is. The outside is very smooth. It’s black marble very heavy duty very sturdy. I’m very happy with it you’re in need of mortar and pestle I would highly recommend this brand. I’m able to mix seasonings of any kind in there and then price was very reasonable for the heavy duty of this mortar and pestle It’s very easy to hold. It’s very versatile. To do There is no lid and I don’t create any dust.

This is a nice, HEAVY mortar & pestle. Don’t use it as much as I thot I would. Mostly just takes up space, but my fault.
