What is the difference between this model, the compact, and the regular x32. Is it just size and extra nobs? Can they do things that this can't?

Yes, size and extra nobs. Also, the Compact version have only 16 Channels with preamps. For use the others 16 you have to buy separate the s16 digital snake a part of the mixer.

Does this have wifi and work with the Behringer X32 iPad app to mix wirelessley?

It has ethernet, so you will need to connect it to a wireless router... I think you can just create a local network only the connect your ipad to the same local network to control it.

Can the board be controlled remotely via an ipad or iphone app?

Yes! The iPad and the X32 just need to be connected to the same network. You can either plug the X32 into your current network or plug the board into a separate router and connect the iPad to that. The app used to control is called X32-Mix.
