Actually helped my OD shudder - 181K
My car: Ford Focus with 181K miles. My symptoms: The car seems to get stuck in Overdrive, and sometimes shudders or grinds when trying to downshift, especially at low rpms. The worst is a soft hill with traffic in front of you at about 45mph. The car would consistently want to lug/grind in those situations (maybe 25-33% of the time or more if the situation is right). Not enough power to climb the hill in OD but not enough power to downshift to 4th either, it seems. It has done this since I last changed the ATF (due to this symptom first appearing) 40K miles ago. The solution so far has been to drive with OD off. What I did: Added 1 packet along with a drain and fill of the whole system. Used Valvoline universal synthetic ATF, same as I put in last change 40K miles ago. The result: Much better shifting, and thus far no slipping, though I am not keen to truly stress test this, we are on a couple weeks now with zero slips and I no longer have to drive with the OD off. I can take soft hills in top gear at 40-45mph like the car (stupidly) wants to, and the car seems to be able to engage power to the wheels much better. I am genuinely impressed! Overall: I'm much better off than when I started, and feel much more confident about getting another couple years from the vehicle. The multipack is money well spent.
