Good design , company with excellent customer service!
Amazon incorrectly bundled this with the drinkwell 360 multi pet stainless buy both and save button. IT DOES NOT WORK WITH THAT FOUNTAIN!!Purchased this with a drinkwell 360-- it was bundled by amazon as buy both and save. I used the packaged filter first before trying to use this with the fountain. Discovered this filter does not fit the fountain I purchased. Amazon wouldn't allow a return at that point. Contacted the company and they allowed me to exchange. Really really can't say enough about the customer service. The correct filter works, is easy to clean and use. The fountains have ended the uti problems our cats were having. The activated charcoal is similar to rabbit pellet feed in shape and size. The kit provides several refills. I really like that you can put the old activated charcoal in your compost pile. The plastic for the disposable filters isn't recyclable ( isn't listed). The other thing I really appreciate about the reusable filter is that it doesn't significantly impede the flow as it ages and clogs. The disposable filter practically stopped flow as it clogged . That hasn't been an issue for the reusable. I change and wash the drinkwell weekly. I've been changing the charcoal in the filter weekly with the wash. I use a coffee scoop to measure-- it's close enough. It took about ten days ( not long after one weekly fountain cleaning and water change) for the disposable filter to clog and impede flow in the fountain. You can work out the cost to operate the fountain using disposable charcoal filters.

don't use the carbon that comes with. just throw it out. it will save you from cleaning up a big mess in the water dish.
the filter is good but don't use the carbon that comes with it. it extremely low grade carbon. it just makes a mess of your cats water dish everyday. it leaves a black film all over the entire water dish and its pain to get off. I've rinsed it every day and the black film just keeps coming back. it like the carbon pellet are breaking down in the water dish. I've used carbon in aquariums for over 14 years and I've never seen it do this.

basically useless.
The included charcoals turns the water black infinitely. Not only is that much charcoal unhealthy for pets (they need much smaller doses to get sick than we do and charcoal has a variety of associated health issues) but cats generally don't drink water that looks dirty. My cat, in particular, won't touch any water that isn't reverse osmosis filtered and pristine and clear.Charcoal bits also don't seem to do any filtering to the water- whatever's going on goes through after enough time. I haven't had the water long enough to tell you if it helps fight slime because I have to clean it daily. The casing itself doesn't fully seal at the edge and water leaks out the side which makes the padoga water filter casing pop open and leak.Extremely hard to clean, it gets stained with little microcharcoal bits which eventually soak off into the water even if you put the casing in there empty.Massive waste of $20. Don't buy.

Works without charcoal but not with it. Water turns ...
Works without charcoal but not with it. Water turns black within a day and then the cat won't drink. I tried to rinse the charcoal and even soaked it but if I had to do it again, I would purchase the disposables. Not using anything currently.

Very Pleased
I was so happy to find this type of filter for my Drinkwell Pagoda fountain. It works great as long as you get a different charcoal. They very nicely supply you with some with purchase, but it is messy. I washed my fountain and charcoal everyday for a week, but it still spewed black. No issues whatsoever when using it with the recommended Acurel brand charcoal. Thank you for designing this - saves a lot of money and helps to keep the water fresh.

Pack the carbon in the filter for best results
So I had been waiting a long time for these filters to become available. I already use a forever filter from this company in our Drinkwell 360 stainless steel fountain and never had an issue. I tried the carbon from the seller first and ended up with a big mess in our two pagoda fountains. I had rinsed the filters for about 5 minutes before using them so was surprised at the amount of dust. I cleaned the fountains out and put the dustless carbon in that I use in our other 360 fountain filter. I never had an issue with that carbon in the 360 filter so was shocked when I saw another mess in the pagoda fountains. I went back and re-read the comments in Amazon and found that one user suggested packing the filter with carbon. The first two times I had only filled them up about 3/4 of the way. So after cleaning the fountains again (3rd time in 4 days) I made sure to pack the dustless carbon into the filter and rinsed it very well. Lo and behold there was no more mess!! The fountains have been running for 3 days and no sign of charcoal dust. Thanks to the reviewer who suggested packing the carbon into the filter. When the carbon is loose and can tumble inside the filter it starts to break apart. Now that the dust issue has been corrected I would highly recommend these filters. I haven't gone back to try the carbon the seller sent but now that I know the issue happens with all carbon I am sure it will work just fine. I'll be using the carbon from the seller when I clean the fountains out in the next few days.

Good idea, bad execution
I've had this for a couple of weeks now. I really liked the idea of a reusable filter, especially considering the cost of the store bought filters. This has been a huge disappointment, though. The included charcoal dust continously seeps into the water regardless of how much you wash it. I ran water through the filter until ran clear like you're supposed to, it didn't help. I soaked the filter with charcoal for thirty minutes, no luck. I even tried soaking it and spinning it in a salad spinner with paper towels repeatedly, nope. At most, I can go three days without having to replace the water and clean the entire fountain (pictures below are after three days).
