Emotional Ninja by Whitney Cummings

A solid 3 stars if it wasn't for the poor audio quality
Emotional Ninja is a essentially a series of jokes, too seldom told as very funny deadpan non sequiturs and too often told as driving deliberately to an obvious punch line. Whitney Cummings has a habit of raising her pitch in a sing-song manner that too many female comedians do. When she's at her dirtiest, she comes off funny, because the rehearsed nature of her comedy breaks down where even she is a bit embarrassed for having told the joke that goes too far. I wish there were more of those in this album. As other reviewers have mentioned, the quality of the audio is extremely poor. I could hear most of it with my MP3 player turned up higher than normal. I don't like comedy albums that are stitchings of multiple acts, as this one is. Overall, I think Cummings has great stage presence and excellent attention to joke writing, but she needs to vary her delivery and not be afraid to be honest, and she needs to get away from easy subjects.

I like Whitney Cummings...
...but this isn't a good album for her. The tracks are so short that listening straight through was distracting, and often the sound quality was bad.I already liked her material prior to buying this, so when I saw it on special I was mildly surprised and happy; after listening to the album, I can see what it was on sale.I'd suggest you find a better copy of her material.

Move it along...
While the comedy in this album isn't terrible, the audio quality does a sure fire job of torpedoing this album. If you like listening to the one woman sitting right next to the mic laugh uproariously you're in for a treat however. In the end, there are much, much better options on the market for strong female comedians. (Amy Schumer comes to mind)

What did she say?
The quality of the recording left much to be desired. It sounded as if someone in the audience had a cassette recorder. It bothers me because she is such a talented performer who needs the right vehicle.

BOOTLEG???
THE SOUND on this Emotional Ninja album although comically inclined will having you reeling in disgust. Miss Cummings does a fine job and the material is funny enough. What isnt funny is spending 8.99 on an MP3 file collection that sounds as though it were recorded over the phone. No I take that back. I have had phone conversations far more clear than this muddy bunch of files that due to the constant space between files will provide a massive collection of frustration for the listener in every respect. Miss Cummings literally says about 4 lines in some cases....with 3 seconds of SPACE as the files change over and then continues. Imagine listening to a music cd that every 25 seconds had a space before the music continued. IT WOULD DRIVE YOU BLOODY INSANE. But the real embarrassment here is that the entire show is recorded by AN AUDIENCE MEMBER!!!! You can here them clapping and sneezing and carrying on just like that first bootleg of Pink Floyd you bought back in '73 that wasn't recorded by the soundboard. FORGET THIS ONE!!! AMAZON should listen first to what they sell. This is pathetic and I plan to ask for my money back.

The Good and Bad
Love Whitney Cummings, but the recording is horrible. It sounds like a bootleg tape.
