Are these 8" or 9" pans the description says that they are 8"?

Jamie, mine measure that same as S. Sparke commented. I would not order them as the quality is not nearly as good as the brand I had before. The "arm" does not sit fully down on the cake pan bottom, so the cake does not release without taking off a bottom layer of the cake. The arm being raised also makes them a hassle to clean. do these pans accomodate a cake mix like betty crocker

They do. Of course you would need two pans for a box of cake mix (I am sure you knew that, just adding it just in case). However, I do not reccommend them as the are very difficult to clean under the spinner. You can never get the cake out from under it without lifting it up which bends it and makes it tear up the next cakes after that.

How do you clean under the sweeper?
