Prep Solutions Silicone 12 Inch Diameter Microwave Mat

We just recently installed a new induction cooktop (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0011YJE7E/) and I stumbled across this item while looking for something to help protect the beautiful Ceran surface of our brand new cooktop. I originally purchased only one of these as a trial, and after great success, went back for 3 more.I cannot speak to their function in a microwave, but I can vouch that these are dishwasher safe, and they work well in between the surface of our cooktop and the pot/pan. Being silicone, they aren't affected by the magnetic fields generated by the induction unit, and they also work well up to high temps. Being as thin as they are, they are the perfect solution for anyone looking to protect the surface of their induction cooktop without interfering with the magnetic fields used to heat the pot/pan. As an added benefit, they also help the pot or pan stay in place, centered on the burner, when stirring.I would suggest that they be washed before being used in this manner, as there seemed to be a very thin, greasy film (probably leftover from the manufacturing process) on the surface of them. I also trimmed them down to the exact diameter of each of the burners. They are easy enough to cut with a good pair of scissors or a razor blade. Great product at a great price!

This product is working out great, both for my microwave and for my Nuwave oven. (portable countertop oven) I don't make too many messes in my microwave to clean up, but this is SUPER handy for my Nuwave because now I don't need to put a sheet of either aluminum foil or parchment paper on the cooking rack under my food. (I could use a pan under my food, but that's just more cleanup.) This fits the Nuwave's round cooking rack perfectly and, of course, is super easy cleanup. I also love that other reviewers pointed out this can be used on an induction cooktop, and the heat will go right through it to the pan. Eliminates any scratches to the induction cooktop. Nice!

These silicone pads are a real handy thing to have in a microwave oven. I keep one on the turntable for easy transfer of warmed foods onto the countertop. No need for gloves to keep from hot surfaces. The silicone folds easily around the container to form an ultra secure grip. The pad also keeps the glass turntable clean of spatters and dripping steam. The pads have an excellent price point so I purchased two. The silicone is thin and very pliable and easy to wash. They are practically indestructible. My inquiry about being made of food safe silicone did not settle the question. I did not see any label on the packaging indicating they were. They came wrapped in very thin cellophane paper with no details. I detected no chemical smell from the product. I am using them with a fair amount of confidence they are food safe after receiving an email response form the manufacture that they were. The product details do not mention anything about food safety.Recommended.

Bought one of these about 5 years ago in a kitchen store and have been looking for another one since that time. Found it here on Amazon a few weeks ago. It's identical to my other mat: size, thickness, color!I had to keep moving mine between kitchen and RV microwaves because it's such a useful item. Spills wash off easily with warm soapy water. Much easier to clean this mat than the fragile round glass plate. Indestructible -- unless you cut it accidentally. (Don't slice pizza or anything else on it!)In my opinion, this mat is well worth every penny and will last years and years. My old one is used every day and still looks like new.

I learned from other silicone product reviews that these can smoke when in the oven when they are new. Since I plan to use it for both microwave and as a pizza pan liner, I placed it in the oven at 400 with another rectangular red silicone sheet I purchased at the same time. Black clouds of smoke did come out for a while and my smoke alarm sounded, it's OK now. Can't be sure both sheets smoked equally. It worked good for zero sticking and cleanup when baking cookies. As soon as it's out of the oven you can drag it off your hot metal cookie sheet using bare fingers, it then lets cookies cool faster. If you have 2 of these you could really speed up the cookie baking process, keeping your metal sheet hot or try cooking on a pizza stone. In my microwave it emits a nice cookie smell as it warms. My sheet lays flat except during brief periods of rapid cooling when the edge curls up and inward a bit, not a problem and the lifted edge makes it super easy to grab and slide off a hot sheet. No discoloration so far.

I use this almost every day, sometimes several times per day. It throws easily onto any container I put in the microwave, keeps splatter and spills from happening. I rinse, dry, stick it back in the microwave till I use it again.It has saved me from more than one mess. I have read in some of the reviews it has an ordor, uh I have not sniffed it, but at arms reach it does not have an odor, and while it did pick up some garlic and onion odor (I love my pasta) that wore off in a use or two and never transfered to any food.Every now and then it creates a vacuum on the bowl, after it starts to cool, which as I see it is a extra bonus feature.
