Amalaki (Emblica officinalis) is a tree common in the tropical regions of the world. The fruit of this tree known as the Indian gooseberry is also called dhatri or amla. The word dhatri means nurse or mother in India, and points to the importance of this fruit in nourishing the health of its people. The word amla means sour as the fruit is rich in vitamin C. Amalaki is known since ancient times for being hugely beneficial for a wide variety of health problems. It is cooling and has a sweet post digestive quality.
