It's a terrible chemical smell
Do not buy...unless you are using outside. The second I opened the box the smell was unbearable. Put it together outside in the cold sure after a day or so unpacked it would air. Nope. After moving it to the garage and leaving out there for over a week I brought inside today. Few hours later I went back upstairs and the room it was in and the hall both reeked. It's a terrible chemical smell. Its going back outside. That smell can't be healthy.Update...the wind knocked it over while on the covered porch airing out. So now its smashed into several pieces. Seriously don' t waste your money like I did!

Piece of JUNK
This fell apart and broke as we were assembling it. It's a piece of junk made from flimsy compact cardboard, not solid wood. Even if it had held together when installing, I highly doubt it would have been strong enough to hold up any weight from books or decorative objects. I have to select a star to post this, review, but the star is for on time shipping NOT for the product...if there was a way I would give this shelf unit MINUS 10 stars. Save yourself the time, money and frustration and look for an alternative leaning bookcase with better reviews.

UGH!
Unbelievable odor! Toxic, horrible, headache-inducing odor...I'm torn! This shelf is so easy to put together, so cute, and perfect for my needs, but after putting it in my bathroom, I could smell the nasty odor upon first entering my bedroom - and the doorway is over 15 feet away from where this shelf was. I've had the shelf outside for the past 4 days and it's not done any good. I've spritzed it down with vinegar. Nothing. Today I'll try rubbing it down with baking soda. I'm not hopeful. Last resort is maybe use some shellac to seal in the odor. Frankly, I'm out of ideas.I suppose manufacturers do this in the process of making the laminated wood, and why should they care about VOCs? I'm guessing that the number of people who take the time to put these things together and then take them apart and rebox it all and send it back is pretty low.
