Took me about 40 mins to install. I stacked two pieces of pressure-treated 2x6 to make a thick mounting block and anchored it into concrete. The hose block fits perfectly on the face of the 2x6 — no issues.Install was straightforward. The screw heads are 8mm; 10mm socket fits just right. I used a ratcheting socket wrench and it made life easy. The screws are solid for wood, but if you’re going into brick or concrete, you might want to swap them out with something better. Heads-up: it’s a European-made unit (Slovenia), so make sure you’ve got metric sockets handy.Reel mounts tight, retracts smooth, and feels nice. Box was a little beat up so was slightly worried — but the reel inside was flawless and everything worked out.Highly recommend — feels like something that’ll last a while.Mounting Tip for Brick or Concrete Walls: this is 115 ft reel — you’re not just dealing with the hose weight, but also the water still inside and the force of the spring mechanism pulling it all in. That’s why having a solid mount is critical.If you’re installing this reel directly onto brick, block, or poured concrete, do not rely on the plastic wall anchors that come in the box — these anchors are rubbish. They’re too soft and can loosen over time, especially as you’re dealing with the force of reeling back.Instead, spend a few bucks and get metal sleeve anchors, Tapcon screws, or wedge anchors — something built for masonry. You’ll get a much more secure hold, and the reel won’t wiggle, shift, or tear out under stress.

I originally bought one for my dad to use with his greenhouse because he was tripping over his rolled up hoses on the ground.While the instillation isn't difficult it is heavy and needs to mounted securely to a post in the ground, likely a 4x4 with a 2x6 mounted to it for best instillation and function (this is how we did it). This does take some work but was totally worth it when mounted.He loves this hose and reel and has raved about it every time he is out in the garden working. It has been two years now and it still reels back quickly and well without any issues. It is a much cleaner look and overall is much better than all the rolled up hoses.The hose seem durable and has thus far had no issues with cracks or leaks. Just makes sure in the fall if you live in a cold weather area you blow the water out of the hose and it seems to last just fine.As I said he has loved this so much I just bought a second for my own yard and thus far love it.I will likely be buying more in the future.

Top product, easy to install, works well

I have three other high quality hose reels on different sides of my house, but this one is the favorite by far. I'm glad I spent the extra dollars (German engineered Gardena products are not known for being inexpensive). This is a well designed, precision built automatic retracting hose reel. Be warned that this 115-ft long hose and reel is very heavy, but once it is securely attached to its wall mounted swivel base, it feels light and responsive to operate. As you extend the hose, the reel locks whenever you stop pulling.To retract, just give it a tug and it winds up perfectly, never any catches or tangles of the hose as the geared guide wraps the hose perfectly around the reel. I don’t want grass clippings and debris accumulating inside the reel, so I lightly wrap an old towel around the hose near the reel and let the towel clean the hose as it automatically retracts.Some people are not familiar with Gardena’s Power Grip connector. It slips over the hose and tightens down by hand. If it ever comes off, just slip it back on and tighten by hand. If you wish to shorten the lead-in hose, you can cut it shorter and replace the Power Grip connector easily.

My wife and I are getting older. Moving a hose filled with water around a rather large yard and then having to coil it back up is getting more and more difficult each year. Discovering this product on Amazon I figured it was worth a try and boy was it ever! Both my wife and I found it easy to use. I mounted it to the house, hooked in the supply line and we were in business. You simply pull out the amount of hose needed and it reaches without a problem for over a 100 feet. My only complaint is the hose itself could be a little more durable. One of us must have pulled a little too hard around an obstacle and created a whole. Now this is the GREAT part. I contacted Gardina asking if I could purchase a new hose and where to have it installed. They do not suggest you do it yourself because of the spring tension. They asked for proof of purchase. I sent them a copy of my Amazon screen and the next thing I knew they are sending me a new replacement. No hassles. I was not even looking for a replacement. I just want to buy a hose. Their customer service department is top notch and easy to deal with. If your in the market, I say go for it.

This is big and high quality. The hose is smaller diameter and the pressure for the long hose is a little less than a typical hose, but the convenience is great. the retract works nice. the major issue - 1 star, is the mounting bracket. It requires at least 5" so a single 4x4 is too narrow. I found a good spot with two 4x4 next to each other and it worked good. The thing to know is the mount seems like its designed for about a minimum of a 6" board width. (and it has two vertical mounting points to account for) but otherwise- not sure if i would buy another one but happy with this for its intended use.
