This book is Hilarious
This book is hilarious - laugh out loud funny - those giving it a poor review are looking for intimate details of back stage - oooohhhhh the intrigue - who's sleeping with who did Danny yell at John - what was Lorne wearing? Nope this is an entirely different look - more autobiographical with SNL tidbits thrown in along the way and the campy spaced out adventures of Tom Davis - how he and Al joined forces their success, failures and struggles - from Johnny Carson to Tim Leary. If you liked Fear and Loathing - you'll appreciate Tom's arc and life adventure.Paul BurkeAuthor-Journey HomeJourney Home

This book is a disorganized mess
This book is a mess. Gosh I really wanted to like this, I'm a huge SNL fan particular Classic SNL. But this book by writer Tom Davis jumps all over the place, contains way too much detail about which drugs he took and his various aimless wanderings around the world and too many Grateful Dead concerts. It also contains factual errors - I can only imagine how many others I didn't catch. For example he mentions the Franken & Davis "Mr USA" sketch and the date it aired Oct 30 1977. I went to my SNL DVDs to watch it. Not only was the sketch not on that particular show, on the date he mentioned there wasn't even a show...Oct 30 1977 wasn't even a Saturday! He mentions Buck Henry and Chevy Chase being in the sketch...well clues, Chevy had already left the show by then, and look at the photo of the sketch printed in the book, here's no Buck or Chevy in it! After some poking around I finally found it, it was on Sep 24 1977 a show hosted by Steve Martin, and of course Buck Henry and Chevy were not in the (hilarious) sketch, Steve Martin was tho. That was just page 43-44. A huge disappointment from one of my favorite SNL writers.

It's a good read.
I don't know why people have problems with this book. I just finished it and really liked it. I agree the lack of continuity is slightly annoying but it's got a lot of anecdotes about SNL. He talks about Belushi, Lorne Michaels, Mr. Mike, Chris Farley, Mike Meyers, Nirvana...etc.Yes, he talks about his drug use but he also talks about his travels throughout the world, how he and Al Franken met, and the Grateful Dead. I don't even like the Grateful Dead but he doesn't go into great detail so it was fine.
