Comfortable with good support
This brace was what my orthopedic doctor wanted me to have after a bad sprain and cracked fibula. The minute I put it on my ankle felt stronger and more protected. I can still move well flexing and extending but don't worry that my ankle will roll outwards or inwards - ways it is not supposed to. Fits in my shoes okay with some loosening of the laces. Highly recommend!

I have used this only one time but it was amazing. I broke my foot/sprained my ankle last year and then rolled it two or three times since and have been in and out of a boot.Today I got sick and tired of it and tried this brace for a run outside (which I have essentially been too scared to do since my last sprain). This thing worked great! It does not pinch your foot and it’s very supportive. No comment on the longevity of the product but first blush is terrific.

Great Product -- Physician Approved
I am a 32 year old male who plays basketball 3 times weekly -- my left ankle has taken on several sprains. Unfortunately, ankle sprains are cumulative, and I either had to find a solution for rolling my ankle or give up basketball. Even as a physician, I was extremely skeptical this would help, but at the urging of my orthopedic colleagues I decided to give it a try.First - as has been mentioned by others - the brace is INITIALLY uncomfortable. A lot of people are going to give up on this too early, which is really their loss (but a reason to ignore their negative comments). The brace requires some breaking in as it conforms to your personal ankle shape. For me, this took three different 1.5 hr sessions. Also, in order to achieve comfort earlier, I'd wear two pairs of socks and put the bottom of the brace UNDER the insole inside the shoe. The reason for my initial skepticism is that I play a point/shooting guard position in which ankle mobility is essential for good cutting and defense. I was certain that anything extra in the shoe or around the ankle that was capable of preventing rolling of the ankle would diminish my lateral movements and general mobility. Well, I couldn't have been more wrong. The first few weeks I used it, I knew the brace was there and was cautious, but most of that was because I was still rehabbing from a previous injury. After several weeks, though, I don't really notice it's there and it has not caused me to lose any mobility. Finally, it does just as it advertises. If put on properly, it is pretty much IMPOSSIBLE to roll the ankle. The caveat is that it naturally loosens a little as you play, so I just retighten every 30 minutes or so to be safe.I strongly recommend this for basketball use if you are prone to ankle rolling/sprains. I'm thinking about getting one for my other ankle, despite the fact that it is rarely sprained.

Lesser of evils
For blockers and hitters, landing on your opponent's foot from the other side of the net can put you out of play for months. This is the most comforable of the highly effective braces I know of. There are others that are much more comfortable, but much less effective. This one prevents the unnatural side to side bending of the ankle, but doesn't limit the up and down flexing that you need for jumping. You don't have to strap them on very tight! They're not ice skates, they don't need to be tight to prevent injury. I've had the white ones before and they get a bit dingy over time, but these cool black ones always look good.In case it isn't clear, there is only one brace in the package. Suck it up and buy two - crutches are WAY more expensive!

Poor quality
I bought an active ankle roughly 20 yrs ago. I thought I’d finally replace it. When the new one arrived the first thing I noticed was the padding is now made of a cheap foam material. It used to be a padded fabric cushion. If you look at my picture, the black one is from 20 years ago. I need something that will last. The new braces are just made of cheap material and won’t last very long. Very disappointed they are cutting costs by cutting the quality. Will be sending these back and will look for something better.

Good value, very good ankle protection.
Great brace for athletic activities or general support. I use it regularly to play volleyball, after spraining my ankle multiple times. It'd be almost impossible to sprain your ankle with this on, and I play more confidently knowing this. My only negatives are that it seems a little expensive at list price, and with little padding you can feel the base under your foot (unless your shoes allow you to install it under removable insole.) A note- many athletic teams require their whole squad to wear these.

Sprain no more!
My son inherited "weak" ankles from his father and sprained his ankles on a regular basis, starting with soccer in grade school, continuing through little league, Jr./Sr. high school basketball, football and volleyball. When seeing an orthopaedic surgeon for a torn miniscus from football, we talked about his series of sprained ankles. The surgeon recommended Active Ankle and our health insurance covered the first pair.He wore them throughout high school volleyball and playing in local volleyball, softball, baseball and football leagues ever since. They held up through about 3 years of active use, then we ordered the overhaul kit and he got another 2 years out of them. He finally bought a new pair just this past month. He's not a small guy, at 6'3", 220 lbs. and granted he didn't play sports every day after high school, but 1-2 days a week is still a lot of use! He has had a few sprains when he's played a pick-up game and didn't have the Active Ankles with him, but using them after injury helped him recover faster. These things have save him countless injuries, not to mention the subsequent doctor visits and that cost, I cannot say enough about them! Sooo much better than all those ankle supports I bought at the drugstore before finding them!
