Surprisingly good.
This little knife is kind of dope. I put it in my wish list for Christmas so that people would have stuff to get me, and when it showed up I was surprised how much I liked it.The blade came pretty much razor sharp, and the crossbar lock works nicely. It’s small and light and fits right in my pocket. And I like the carbon fiber. Overall, 10/10, would buy again. My only complaint is that it’s got a hole in the blade, which I have decided I don’t prefer, but that’s really a question of taste and doesn’t change the function of it in any way.

Premium Lightweight EDC Excellence
I recently purchased the SOG Ultra XR and I'm genuinely impressed with what SOG has delivered here. This knife represents the sweet spot between premium materials, practical design, and everyday usability.**Design & Build Quality**The first thing you notice is how impossibly thin and light this knife is. At just 34 grams (1.2 ounces) and 6.5mm thick, it's barely noticeable in your pocket yet feels substantial in hand. The slimline design is deceptive—this knife doesn't feel cheap or fragile despite its lightweight nature. The carbon fiber handle is premium, durable, and provides excellent grip without any sharp edges or hot spots. The fit and finish are flawless, showing SOG's commitment to quality.**Performance & Action**The XR Lock is phenomenal. It enables truly smooth ambidextrous single-handed opening from either side, and the lockup is rock solid. No blade play, no concerns about security. Whether you're right-handed or left-handed, this knife welcomes both equally. The action is fluid and satisfying every single time.**Blade Quality**The CPM S35VN stainless steel blade is where this knife justifies its premium price tag. S35VN is known for excellent corrosion resistance, edge retention, and ease of sharpening—it's a goldilocks steel that balances all the important qualities without compromise. The blade comes sharp and maintains that edge through serious use. It handles cutting tasks from cardboard to rope without hesitation.**Practical Features**I love the titanium pocket clip that doubles as a money clip—it's a clever touch that adds functionality. Deep carry positioning keeps the knife truly discrete.**The Verdict**This is a premium EDC knife for people who understand that quality matters. The SOG Ultra XR delivers on every front: build quality, materials, performance, and design. If you want a lightweight, premium folding knife that won't let you down, this is it. Highly recommended.

This is a real fine knife
I bought a gold version for my son as a present. I was unaware he had sent me a gray version as a gift. When I received mine I couldn’t believe how light it was. This thing was lighter than my Benchmade bugout. The fit and finish was first rate and the knife was one of the sharpest out of the box that I have ever seen. I own several hundred knives and this one is at the top of my favorites. After a couple of days playing with mine I ordered a gold version for myself. I was afraid it was going to look tacky but after listening to my son go on and on about how much he liked his knife and how good it looked I figured if I didn’t like it my grandson would get it. Well, the boy is going to have to wait for his. The gold isn’t tacky at all and looks real high end. If you want an amazingly thin, light quality knife this is it.

Several issues
I collect a lot of sub-$200 folders. At close to a hundie, this is a little more upscale than usual. Having made knives for 30 years, I feel I understand what quality should be available. What one certainly doesn’t want is a product whose quality is available elsewhere at a much lower price. This knife is worth significantly less than I paid for it. First, despite quite a bit of work on the action, I still can’t get it to flip open without herculean effort. There are grind marks/metal burns up near the tip. There is an actual sharpening flaw at the tip. The knife design is cool. The knife came sharp. It is hard as heck to operate one handed and, at this price point, shouldn’t have left QC with the errors. Caveat emptor. Two stars off for quality.

Super lightweight and thin! Gold isn’t a true gold color, but that’s fine.

The cutting edge minimalist answer
This knife is the best light weight minimalist solution I have held in my hands in years. First, it is sharp as a shaving 🪒 razor right out of the box 📦 Second, the knife is completely ambidextrous which is HUGELY important if you actually do find yourself in an emergency situation. Third, it is a minimalist dream: Blade, handle, lock, clip, period the end. Everything you need and nothing you don’t. The technology is there in the material and design, but there are no gimmicks. It is all practicality. Forth the clip and footprint of this blade is comfortable out of pocket in a waistband, a coat pocket, a sleeve, or a sock, and it can transition discretely and rapidly. Finally, if you are familiar with modern folders and have a little skill, this knife will open and close for you like a dream. I would classify this knife as a light duty, urban/ industrial knife that could do some bush craft, but that’s not what it’s meant for. Love it!

Overpriced Box Cutter
I bought this thinking it was going to be awesome bc of the weight as well as the blade steel and the axis lock technology. I love the brand, and thought I would love this knife. It was light and looks are amazing, and deep carry pocket clip. But the thinness of the blade was questionable when it came to wanting it for thick boxes or anything plastic and thick as a trash can. There’s no liner in it, so the thin blade runs on the ultra thin handle. The handle is carbon fiber, so I know that’s tough, but left me questioning if I could use this repeatedly on boxes all day without damaging the knife. The ability to fidget with it too was very hard bc it ran on the handle and didn’t really open and close smoothly and fluidly. Awesome concept, maybe when they come out with a second gen, there will be a design overhaul, and it’ll be a little better for what I thought the price would lead it to be. For 40-50, maybe, over 100, not a solid enough build and usefulness. Great for someone who just needs some protection on a late night run bc there’s literally no added weight to you pants and it’s clip is very nice and snug. Love SOG, hands down, just not this model for me.
