The perfect upgrade to the printer!!
Awesome accessory and a must for your 3D printer! The only reason I did not give this a 5 is that there were no instructions on how to install this and I had to do some research on the internet until I figured out how to install it. Great customer service with getting the firmware update. Definitely recommend this item! Also it arrived way before the expected delivery date which was appreciated.

Not a fail safe additon for my Hictop 3DP-18.
The media could not be loaded. After installing this and the fixed firmware provided by Michael(Lin), It would no longer extrude during print. Its as if the It was smashing into the aluminum bed and scraping the clear/black finish off it, so much so it started to spark as in video here . It would still extrude if I manually heatup nozzle and go and move axis/extruder but that doesnt help printing. Now my bed is scraped bare to the heating element on some parts rendering it dangerous and a hazard. I am waiting to find out if they will be replacing my bed or if I will suffer the loss on my end. I will be returning this and would appreciate the original firmware for my printer the 3DP-18. Hopefully one this time that will not damage my printer any further.Update:I removed self leveling upgrade, put firmware for my 3DP-18 which was provided by Hictop in an answer to someones question. I hooked the original z limit switch back up and started printing but now during it will not start another job. Obviously has something to do with heater bed which is damaged now a week within the purchase date!

Works, but not convenient
Let me see how will i address this.... Does it work? Yes. I even stopped using it.Do i recommend, not really. Here are my few gripes about it.Pros- does work accurately to Z stop- plug and play installation (provided firmware was updated)- easy install- firmware was easy to installCons- no instructions at all on package, all you get is sensor + hardware inside a brown envelope.- connector is fragile, if you pull too hard, wires can come off, i took it off and solder them to be safe.- had to email seller to get firmware containing self leveling feature- sensor really sits about 70mm away from the actual nozzle... how is this accurate?- cant be used with glass on metal bed, has to be used on actual metal bed itself. So as you guys can see theres more cons, but not super bad. The problem with this really is the position of it. I got this because my aluminum heated bed is about 0.10mm lower on the center than the outer perimeter. This caused me to calibrate my Z to the borders, but adhesion was crappy on center of bed. IMO it sits way too far from the extruder. This shortens your Y axis, since it will be over open air, when the nozzle is anywhere <70mm from your Y axis max lenght. At the same time this also translate into the sensor measuring the height of the bed 70mm away from the nozzle , and in this case, the reading is from an area of the bed thats lower, which doesnt give you the best clearance on the edges of the bed. This throws off the whole reading the machine sees from the points it reads.I am on the process of trying to figure out how to get the sensor closer to nozzle, so the readings can be more accurate. If i can do this, this item will rock.TL:DR... dont buy it unless you have a solution to make this sensor work closer to nozzle. Oh, and yes, this sensor is kinda generic, you can find it online for 25% of this price.

Great inductive sensor!
Worked exactly as needed for my 3D printer. Initial set up is a little dificult. But once it's up and going it's great!

Worked Great For Me!!
I recently purchased and assembled a HICTOP Prusa i3 and quickly realized that manually leveling the bed before every print was both extremely important and no fun! I started doing research to see if there is a better way and realized that there were sensors to "auto level". I purchased this sensor expecting it to be a pain to get to work and it was super simple. I disconnected my Z Endstop and plugged this sensor into that port on the board. I updated the firmware which the seller provided and followed the video to calibrate which all took less than 15 mins. To calibrate you basically move the sensor up and down the mount to get the tip of the extruder to have a gap the thickness of a sheet of paper. If you have a PRUSA i3, buy this and save your sanity!

which is very nice. Is it worth the price
My first purchased upgrade for my Hictop Prusa i3 (3DP18). Works as advertised. Includes a link for the firmware upgrade. Using Cura as directed, the firmware upgrade was a breeze. As some other reviewers stated, this is not the ultimate upgrade that solves all of your Z-calibration issues. But, it certainly does save so much time on print setup. What I mean is, about every 6-8 prints, I have to perform the normal mechanical calibration, plus the sensor calibration. But, I no longer have to do that on EVERY print, which is very nice. Is it worth the price? Yes. Is it a must-have upgrade? No, the Hictop 3DP18 works great without this sensor. This unit mounts to a steel U-bracket and temperature changes could feasibly alter the sensor alignment to some extent. This could be why it's not a perfect solution. But, again, it is very worthwhile for me.

Honestly it's pretty expensive for a proximity sensor but it works very well and Hictop support sent the correct firmware within a few hours of emailing them asking for it as the Google drive link they provide is confusing and lacks documentation.

Instructions unclear.
No instructions came with this other then a link to a Google drive with the right firmware to enable the feature, but even then I had to manually enable it via modifications to the configuration.h file. It didn't work out of the box even on the newer firmware. Considering its 2x the price of a generic option and that I'd have had to do the same amount of work to enable the features either way I'd say stay clear if you are able to source your own leveler from another source.Update 1/10 - HICTOP reached out to me to discuss improving their instructions and have now released several videos on installation, calibration and troubleshooting. I do appreciate that and am raising my rating on it by one star for the support. While the price still could be lower, the fact that they reached out and were will to take my suggestions to work on the concerns raised go a long way.

Waste of money

Did not work (light was always on) and turned out to be defective. Also found out that the price of this item is way out of line with exact same inductors from other vendors anyways. I do have to give kudos to HICTOP at least responding to my email (albeit a few days later) and confirming that it was likely defective.
