My tailgate would not close, could not figure it out. This product, once installed, my tailgate opens and closes like it was brand new. Sometimes parts just wear out and they have to be replaced.

I have a extended bed single cab, 2000 GMC Sierra SLE 5.3 Liter. I got it as a hand me down and I started to make it a project truck. I figured I needed to redo the tailgate because everything is rusting, plus the handle broke on me when i tried to open. I looked at this tailgate kit and it seemed a direct fit. (Fitment guide even said it was) Oh boy was I wrong. Where do I start... The bolts that come with kit dont even have a grade to them, the bolts from the truck are 9.8 grade,metric m8 1.25 threads. I was scared they would snap like twigs, so I didnt use them, ended up buying new 10.9 grade just to be sure.... I installed the hinges that hold and also let the tailgate to swing down, to the bed of the truck, next to the taillight, they seemed solid. I tried installing the tailgate wire suspenders/safety wire and they were to short, the tailgate wasnt flat when fully open, more like a slant. They were very bulky from original and poorly made, wire was already coming out of the knot (made some scratches on the truck when installed and trying to close) The handle component that opens the latches so the tailgate may come down was also ok. It was lubed up and was able to open easily when pulled. The tailgate latches lock the tailgate on both sides of the tailgate in the vertical position to the truck bed, they are connected to the handle component by metal rods with small hooks on both ends. They also have a rubber bumper so if you were to slam it harder, its ok. Left side latch was great, it locked into place, solid. The right side didnt fully lock. You would have to slam it shut and when you did, you can hear the click that it locked but the smallest amount of pressure on the tailgate on right side and that latch would open causing the tailgate to slam down. The right latch was garbage. One thing that made me pissed was the hinges that go onto the tailgate itself. They were made so bad! They could not fit at all! It was so bad that I had to double check myself that I didnt order a different truck kit. It stated it was for my truck model and year. I ended up reshaping the whole part. I had to use a anvil, heavy duty table vise, big flat hammer and other random tools. I spent hours flattening and bending the metal, so that it would resemble the original pieces I took off. After alot of effort, I was able to reproduce the original with the garbage pieces they gave me. The plastic cover they gave me for the handle was already damaged. One clip of the four was already broken off, so when you try to put on. It didn't really feel secure against the metal of the tailgate and wobbled back n forth. This kit by far was a waste of money and my time, in my opinion it was more of a scam! For around $60 plus trip to store to get new correct grade bolts The tailgate hinges were not correct at all, one of the two latches wouldnt fully close n stay closed. The bolts were absolute garbage and should never be used for this task at all! (This is a safety concern when your tailgate rips off and hits the person behind you) The two safety wires for the tailgate were to short, making a slant when tailgate is down. The plastic handle cover was already damaged when it arrived, yet no damage to the shipping box The only pieces that were correct and worked was the handle to open the tailgate And the hinges that attach to the bed of the truck, everything else was trash made or broken before installing. HOW IS THIS NOT A SCAM!? DO NOT BUY!! DO NOT BUY!! !!BUYER BEWARE!!

Very good value. The handle assembly and latches fit very well and work great. I had issues with the pivots for the bottom of the tailgate. They didn’t fit correctly and I had to bend the mounting brackets to make it work. I’m still happy with the kit.

Delivered quick All parts fit and worked well

The components bolt up as they should. However, the studs that install into the bed and the locking mechanisms on both sides of the tailgate are so loose that even when closing with a good amount of force, the tailgate can be pulled open without having to pull the handle. The locking components have such a loose fit, that the tailgate fell open while traveling down the highway. I'm looking at replacing everything again, with a different manufacturer's parts.

I've read a ton of reviews and we've actually installed one of the other brand kits in the past that was not great quality but we ordered this one and I was absolutely Blown Away with how thick and sturdy the ABS plastic was and the weight of the metal pieces that are normally cheap and flimsy in the other kits. All the hardware fit and the brackets just needed a very minor amount of tweaking to line up a little better. The tailgate cables also needed tweaked a little bit at the end just to make them a little straighter to fit but I would say that's normal manufacturing. I will 100% buy again if I ever need another one for another Chevy tailgate!

The back door now opening by it self,very bad quality

This kit worked perfectly for our 2000 Chevy Silverado 4x4 1/2 ton truck. We so appreciate the excellent price. Hubby easily installed. Very pleased with everything - the fast delivery, packaging, excellent price, and quality parts. The tail gate opens and closes so easy now, no more slamming to get it to close, no more falling open. Perfect all round.

It is great to all the parts because you never now how many parts you will use.

I got these they showed up on time Everything fit but I did have to bend the hinge portion on the gate ( female side ) in a bit Handle and Bessel fit well and worked properly But the latch’s will not hold bit of shaking and the gate drops. Ended up putting the original latch’s back on. All in all good price and worked as long as you don’t need latches.

This kit was unacceptable. The hinges weren't really formed for the bottom of the tailgate and needed a bit of bending. Definitely do not fit as well as the OEM. But the worst part were the hinges. I can't drive half a mile before the tailgate pops open. I do live on a gravel road with a few potholes for sure, but I don't see anyone else's tailgate popping open. Even my old ones that were a pain to get closed, stay closed. And seeing as sending it back would require sending the whole kit back, it just ain't worth the effort. Looks like I will be buying new latches. I can not recommend this. I took my TG right off just so I don't bounce the heck out of it and destroy those cheap hinges. I would give 0 stars if I could. The handle seems decently made, so there is the one star.
