Don't think, just get them and do it right first time
After much consideration buying these I finally took the plunge after trying many other methods including using the strings as files or trying small needle files, these musicnomad files are absolutely the buisness, they do the job better than any other tool I have used, they cut quick and they are simple as anything to use, just make sure you practise with them first as it's very easy to go too low, honestly the best investment I have made in a long time, cheaper than taking 2 or 3 guitars to a tech and if your a pro they pay for themselves within a few hours, just grab these and get the job done right with the right tools.

Fit for purpose, but expensive.
Expensive, but excellent if you like tinkering worth your guitar set up.

Wished I'd gotten then sooner.
Amateur luthier, love tinkering with guitars and basses, if been in the gene about getting these, but wished i had years ago after I'd used them. Great quality, and a well cut nut can transform how a guitar feels to play.

Great value
Great value for money and perfect for the occasional guitar repairer be careful though!-they cut very quickly so just 2 or 3 strokes then check because you can easily overdo it!

Not the cheapest option but….
Arrived today… I’ve been working on a bone nut for weeks trying to get the 1st string slot sorted. I bought one of those £5 needle file sets, doing a little bit every night before bed (very slow progress). Bought a cheap set of files that are ok but too thick so can only go so far before the thickness of the blade becomes an issue. Used the .013 file today. Took me less than a minute to finish the job. By all means try out cheaper but files but these are the the ones. Comes in a really nice gold case that can fit 10 files so will probably buy more individual files from Music Nomad over time so I can work on all my electrics and acoustics

After deciding to replace the nut of my new guitar to a Tusq one, I had to file the (preslotted) slots to proper depth as they were significantly too high otherwise. I first got a 10€ set of supposed nut files for this, which were not more than little metal rods with some knurling on it, it didnt get through the tusq very well and as far as it did, it wasnt going to get very pretty as the rods had very little and rapidly decreasing texture. So I stopped and since I enjoy maintaining and modding guitars, I decided to get a set of good quality files. This set seemed like a good match to most string gauges I use. Benefit of the set is it gets you a really nice aluminum case with padded inside to store them in. You get less options than with separates but if you find a suitable set it's a nice extra. The files themselves are very good from my limited reference. The handles are easy to hold and for harder to access places you can remove the blade with a minimal sized handle (i didnt find this needed so far). After using these to finish my nut slots and file them down to about 0.4mm on fret one, I was able to get the action lower than I could before and as a result the guitar now places a lot nicer. They are not cheap and for filing one nut its not worth it, just let a pro do it, but if you work on guitars regularly, these make really nice shaped and clean slots. I have not tried other nutfiles of good quality so how they compare I cant call, but the result is great and I think the blades will last many nuts. It is important to brush the filed material from the file edge, after and sometimes in between filing as well. A little brush would have been a good addition to the storage case, but a toothbrush or something works fine.

Bra men dyra. Fin men dålig plåtlåda.
