can this passthru power to my tablet pc which only has one micro usb used for power?

Yes, it can power connected devices, the reason it has a Micro-USB port for that function, don't expect fast charging voltage/watts though, standard 2.4 watts max.

What brand and size usb flash drives work with this device? the first sandisk 8gb i tried did not work.

I have a Seagate drive, 128gb usb stick and mouse connected, no issues. I’ve tried 4 different flash drives an they all work. Make sure your plugged into the right USB port, some are for power only
