Excellent product
This was a life saver for me as I would have lost over 1tb worth of valuable photos and videos taken over many years. My ext hard drive packed up but I was able to unscrew it and attach this little device enabling me to download all files onto my computer. Local shop quoted over £50 just to take a look and then further £50 per hour to download.

Does the Job!
You get what you pay for, this does the job however the quality isn’t the best and the read speeds are decent but can fluctuate. Reason this is a 4* is because it does the job and no drivers needed just plug and play : )

Doesn't work with SSD drives
AVOID WITH SSD DRIVES!I ordered this cable to connect up an SSD drive but it doesn't work. I tried the following:> Different computers (Windows and linux)> Different USB drives> 2 different SSD drives (different brands)> A different cable (same appearance but purchased through eBay)With the above, I could see the drive in windows but would always fail during format. The two lights on the front of the cable were always on. I thought it might have been a faulty SSD drive at first but ruled that out when I purchased a different cable that worked with both the SSD drives I have. From the above, I just don't think this type of adapter/cable works with SSD drives. I did get an old HHD to spin up with the cable (although I didn't test this extensively but it might mean it works with HDD and just not SSDs).The solution was to buy a different cable (at a higher price point) that worked first time with both SSDs on all devices.Just a note, the cable I received is different to the one in the photos so I can only think the seller has swapped to a different hardware solution which is why there are so many positive reviews. I might have just been unlucky with having 2 defective cables but I think its more likely this particular hardware doesn't work with SSDs.

Cheapest way to connect an external SSD
I have a couple of these and they work just fine to turn an old SSD into fast, portable storage. Not tested this brand with 2.5" HDDs though.

Repeat buy
Ideal for using a ssd as a external drive
