Vinyl LP pressing. Remastered edition of Oasis' classic debut album. 'In 20 years' time, people will buy DEFINITELY MAYBE and listen to it for what it was. That's what is important.' Noel Gallagher, August 1994. Remarkably confident words from a guitarist on the eve of his band's debut album release. But Oasis were always certain in their abilities - and the public were just as clear the five-piece were on the right track. Let's get the statistics out of the way. On it's release in August 1994, DEFINITELY MAYBE sold a record-breaking 86,000 copies in it's first week, the highest first-week sales for a debut album in Britain. It has since gone on to sell 5 million around the world. Over the course of their eight albums until disbanding in 2009, Oasis sold over 70 million albums. More importantly, the songs sound as fresh and relevant today as they did 20 years ago. A hunger to escape will always sound vital, especially if it's sung as mesmerically as Liam Gallagher and written with the urgency of Liam's older brother Noel.

Classic Brit pop debut
Great debut by the bickering Gallagher Brothers and company. Alot of memorable songs like "Live Forever" and "Supersonic". Worth picking up.

Definitely done right...no maybe!
I have listened to my original CD copy of this album more times than I care to count and would consider myself very familiar with this recording. This is simply a review of the vinyl itself because if you are reading this you probably already like Oasis and this album (which is certainly a slice of their best work). Ok, on to it: two lovely black LP's, wonderful gatefold packaging with artwork that appears reminiscent of the original (ie. no cheap low dpi scans). Another big plus is that whoever assembled the sets had the common sense to use anti-static sleeves to protect the LP's. What this means is that the records come out of the sleeves clean and ready to play (ie. no damage from paper sleeve burn or debris sticking in the grooves). I simply do not understand record companies that ship (expensive and fragile) records in garbage paper sleeves! Is it really that much of a cost savings?!?Anyhow, on to sound quality...yup, they got it right and it plays as lovely as an album with heaps of guitar distortion can: clean, steady and dynamic sound from edge to edge on both LP's (ie. good quality control between pressings!). Liam's voice never melts or splits apart and Noel's guitar never distorts beyond what seems to have been intended by the original production. In all honesty I've never thought of this album as a very high fidelity recording but much to my surprise what I found beyond the CD was a little more color in the guitar and vocals, a slightly deeper look into the master and a much, much bigger (or as the Brit's like to say "massive!") low end. The kick drum on "Supersonic" truly thumps and on the whole this version feels like a much larger soundscape. So there you have it, if you like well pressed records and enjoy noisy rock and roll from the two brothers who were "born for adversity" then you will be more than pleased with this set. Enjoy!

Classic Album, never the less..
I have to say the most disappointing thing about this remastered release is the original version of 'Slide Away' was replaced with a version where Noel's backing vocal on the pre-chorus is removed. That REALLY bothered me, considering that is my favorite track on the album. I think that's just wrong. The other is, all the bonus tracks added and they couldn't add the complete demo tape (Columbia & Bring it On Down are missing) .. the rest of the demo tape songs are there. That aside, it sounds great. I bought the deluxe box set (because i'm a total oasis fan boy), and these limited Oasis releases tend to be worth a bit of coin in the long run (Not that i'd sell it.. but ya know).. I have not yet compared the sound quality to the original release, just upon a quick listen, i feel it's pretty close to the naked ear.. and most people may not hear a difference. I read something that Liam had said in regards to this 20th anniversary release "HOW CAN YOU REMASTER SOMETHING THAT'S ALREADY [BEEN] MASTERED. DONT BUY INTO IT. LET IT BE.".. Classic Liam. But, surely, that comment won't stop the masses of Oasis fans from buying it.

Vinyltastic Voyage
Nothing better than coming home from work to a $37 micro-brew beer, while I up brush my beard and burn my vinyl collection to cassette so I can rock all analogue in my Walkman. How did society ever make it without this set, directly remastered from the original DAT tapes for that warm analogue glow on a horribly inconvenient and overpriced listening format.
