Works -I think
I didn’t research how this works or even if it actually works. That being said, I bought it because my dishwasher started smelling like fish after daily use for a year. I cleaned the filter and all but the smell didn’t completely go away. I used one tablet according to the instructions and the dishwasher smells fresh again. I guess I can maintain it more frequently so prevent the smell happening again but I’m not very domestic. I despise housework beyond cooking and baking. So there you go. Seems like working.

Maintenance is easier and cheaper than repairs!
2026-06-03. Dishwasher cleaner tablets by Affresh. Helps power away odor causing bacteria, limescale, mineral deposits, and grime. Cleans pump, tub, and hoses. 6-count (6 month supply.) Let's face it, everything needs maintenance, and your dishwasher is no exception. That's why is good practice to get into the habit of regularly cleaning your dishwasher. A clean dishwasher will improve performance and reduce wear and tear, and can potentially prevent costly repairs or messy deep cleanings by hand down the road. What you need to know about dishwashers is how they work. The water used isn't a continuous flow of fresh water from your pipes, on the contrary, the water is filtered and recycled. Most dishwasher tabs used to clean your dishes are NOT soap, rather the ingredients are made up largely of enzymes that break down foods and organic matter. This is why it's good habit to scrape off all large chunks off your dishes before putting them into the wash. When foods are broken down they are more susceptible to clogging and clinging, which is where dishwasher cleaning tablets come in. These are specially formulated and enzyme packed to further break down organic matter and remove any deposits that may accumulate over time. The recommended cycle for cleaning your dishwasher is once per month or every 30 wash cycles, but it really depends on the detergent you regularly use and how often you use your dishwasher. The once per month recommendation is based on you using your dishwasher once a day with middle of the pack dishwasher tablet (i.e. the standard amount of organic matter breaking enzymes like Cascade Platinum or Finish Quantum.) If you use premium dishwasher tablets (like Cascade Platinum Plus or Finish Ultimate) that have more food dissolving enzymes, you can probably get away with stretching your cleanings to once every 6-8 weeks or every 60-80 washes. If you're not sure how often to clean the dishwasher, I'd start with a longer interval and shorten it as needed. I wouldn't recommend a period too long between cleanings (no longer than 3 months if used daily). If you notice any odors or residue accumulating, it's time to clean it. Mark the interval down and once you can establish a regular cycle, reduce it by a week or two and just stick with it. e.g. if you establish that every 6 weeks you start seeing signs of residue build up, then your regular cleaning schedule should be every 4-5 weeks. Sure you won't see the residue, but that's the whole point, you maintain it rather than react and clean it. One of the great things about these tablets is that it can be used with or without a load of dishes. If your dishwasher has a sanitize setting this is the one to use when cleaning it. These dishwasher cleaning tablets are larger than your dish cleaning pods so it won't fit in the soap compartment which is a great way to remind you that it's meant to be used in conjunction and not as a substitute. Just throw it into the bottom of the machine and it'll clean both your dishes and your machine. From an ingredients perspective, these tablets by Affresh are paraben-free, septic safe, and EPA Safer Choice Certified, meaning all ingredients have been evaluated for safer human health and environmental impact. These tablets give off a light lemon scent and retail for $9/6-pk ($1.50 apiece), but currently (at the time of this posting), they're on sale at an 11% discount and are selling at $8/6-pack ($1.33 apiece). Affresh is a subsidiary of Kitchen-Aid Whirlpool and is well established. These tablets work well and, at $1.50 a month, is an inexpensive way to keeping your daily use appliance healthy and performing well. The box arrived somewhat crushed, but the contents inside were still ok. Affresh is developed by Whirlpool, so you may find that it's recommended by any of the nameplates under their corporate umbrella, Maytag, Kitchen Aid, Amana, etc. If you're on a budget, do some math to see what is most economical for you. Premium dish cleaning tablets, the ones with extra enzymes like Cascade Platinum Plus (40¢/pod) and Finish Ultimate (32¢/pod) cost more than their middle of the road models like Cascade Platinum (32¢/pod) and Finish Quantum (24¢/pod), and these are $1.50/tablet. So it may be more economical to buy the cheaper dish pods over the premium ones and use these cleaning tablets more often. Example: Cascade Platinum (@30 cycles) 32¢ × 30 cycles + 1 tablet = $9.60 + $1.50 = ~$11.10/mo or about $133.20/year Cascade Platinum Plus (@39 cycles) -- Note: Cascade Platinum Plus claims up to 30% more cleaning power 40¢ × 39 cycles + 1 tablet = $15.60 + $1.50 = ~ 17.10/6 weeks or about $148.20/year Finish Quantum (@30 cycles) 24¢ × 30 cycles + 1 tablet = $7.20 + $1.50 = $8.70/month or about $104.40 per year Finish Ultimate (@60 cycles) -- Note: Finish Ultimate contains 2x as many enzymes as Finish Quantum 32¢ × 60 cycles + 1 tablet = $19.20 + $1.50 = $20.70/2 months or about $124.20 per year In both cases, with the top leading brands in dish pods, it's cheaper to use the mid-grade in the long run. Sure, you will need to use these cleaning tablets more often, but it works out more budget friendly in the long run. If you're wondering which dish pod is better between Cascade and Finish, it's hard to say as they target different things. The core difference between Cascade Platinum Plus and Finish Ultimate is their primary cleaning strength: Cascade Platinum Plus relies heavily on enzyme power and Dawn grease-fighters to scrub away baked-on foods, while Finish Ultimate leverages an intense formula designed to combat hard water spots and leave a slick, residue-free shine. On an end note, don't neglect your clothes washer either! This is another work-horse of an appliance that's used several times a week in most households, and should also be maintained regularly. While Affresh also makes cleaning tablets for your Clothes Washer, I have been using a different brand (Spintide) which I can no longer find on Amazon, so I've just ordered some RENUV®. If you want to read up on that, you can find it here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-reviews/R2CJSFPCROZFY6?ref=pf_ov_at_pdctrvw_srp I chose RENUV® over Affresh for my clothes washer because RENUV® is designed for deep descaling and heavy build up and I wanted to give that thorough cleaning in my hoses, pumps and drums. They're also more cost effective over Affresh for my schedule. The RENUV® cost 25¢ more per tablet than the Affresh, but I use them every 20 weeks vs every 10 weeks with the Affresh. It's a win-win for me as I clean less often and I save a little in the long run.

Best Dishwasher Cleaner I’ve Used
Refresh dishwasher cleaner is one of the better maintenance products I’ve used for keeping a dishwasher clean and odor-free. It does a solid job breaking down buildup, grease, and residue that accumulate over time, and you can tell the difference in both smell and overall cleanliness after a cycle. After using it, the dishwasher looks cleaner and feels fresher, and dishes come out more consistently clean. It’s especially helpful for routine maintenance when things start to feel slightly off but you don’t need a deep professional clean. The key is proper use, this is not something to overdo. Using it too frequently or alongside other strong cleaning products could potentially dry out seals or be unnecessary. When used as directed and on a schedule (not constantly), it works well without issues. I try to use this once a month. Overall, it’s an easy, effective maintenance cleaner that keeps the dishwasher running better and smelling fresh without much effort.

Worked well
Worked very well in removing the orange fat residue from the dishwasher filter. Didn’t quite get everything in the corners but still very good
