Since then, the company has grown into one of the largest and most influential tackle companies in the world today. To handle sales and distribution in the United States, Daiwa Corporation first opened its doors on September 26, 1966, operating from a small facility in culver City, California. Today, based in cypress, California, Daiwa Corporation sells tackle throughout the United States, Canada, central and South America. From the very beginning, Daiwa's emphasis has been upon innovation and quality. The result is a long list of product features, design and materials that have become standards for the fishing tackle industry. It is a long-standing record of innovation, the type of innovation that has left a visible mark on the majority of tackle made today, innovation that continues to advance the sport of fishing.

Not happy
Daiwa has broken my heart again. This is my third purchase over 30 years. It takes me about 10 years to remember the pain since my last purchase. I had high hopes for this reel. On test casts, it was unbelieveable but then in actual use, things got bad. Used it on one trip and it is already in the factory shop. Here are the facts: 1. Lexa does not fit very well in reel seats (est Shimano factory rods). 2. The clutch does not always fully release the spool, and also does not engage to the spook to reel in. 3. The level wind failed thus all the line bunched up (looked like a backlash). 4. This stopped my fishing time in Costa RicaI am not happy...hopefully when fixed, it will work like promised!

Recommend- great reel for the price
this is an awesome casting reel. Im a seasoned fisherman.I use it offshore in CA. Will reel in yellow tail, dorado, white seabass and everything in between. I can cast this think a mile! SUPER easy ....hardly any thumb if you set the lure dial magnet correctly. I am a shimano man BUT the TRANXX just isn't worth it. Smooth reel, you won't be disappointed!

Five Stars
Set up correctly this reel casts incredibly far and it really does retrieve 43" of line per crank.Update: finally got down to the Florida coast this reel handled some pretty large Jacks. If you were considering a Shimano Tranx this reel does the same job for half the money.

Quality issues in saltwater use
Level wind stopped working after my second trip and line was gathering on one side leaving it unusable. The reel also does not always engage after winding the handle seems like two common issues I ignored in the reviews that are real problems. Really disappointing.

Good when it's good, awful when it's awful.
Good reel out of the box but I've just about had it with Daiwa. Everyone writes such great reviews on this reel but they'll eventually see why I'm giving it two stars. After about a month, parts in the reel were already going bad and had to be sent back for warranty replacement (worm gear, pinion, faulty bearings to name a few issues). This is unacceptable for a reel of this price bracket. Worried about how much extra this reel is going to cost me once my 1 year warranty expires and I have to start paying for the maintenance. All of the issues with the "heavy duty" 400 ironically came about a month after the same exact issues with my Lexa 300 (first gen). Same timeframe for that reel as well- a few weeks of very light use and back to Daiwa for replacement parts including the pinion and worm gear. Dealing with the Daiwa rep has become so typical that we're on a first name basis now. I'd expect more out of a reel of this price bracket... it has been out of commission more than it's been in commission for me this season. Seems as if Daiwa is using cheap or defective parts in my opinion. Reel lasts just long enough to fool people into writing reviews full of praise, then you're left with a $300 hunk of junk. Go Shimano or Okuma.

Smooth, Easy to Cast, Reels in Fast
Great! The smoothest, easiest reel to cast I've ever had. I strongly recommend it. Great gear ratio 8:1:1, reels in fast, CRBB = corrosion resistant ball bearings. I cast the farthest with this reel.
