How do I get this unit to fully charge? It shuts off after two minutes or less. I have tried different cords

The lights will auto shut off during charging. Which is good because at night they'll light a room. Mine charged overnight from arriving empty. It will also depends on what you use as a charger. A simple 1 amp phone charger will take a long time. The same with your computer which might be spitting out 5 volts but at low amps. Hook it up to a tablet charger that's kicking out the juice and it'll charge overnight, no problem. Wake it up to test the amount-of-charge lights.

What is the life expectancy of this charger?

I've only had it for a few months. It takes along while to get a full charge (like 3+ hours) but it can charge a device rather quickly (1 hour maximum) or more than 1 device at a time. The battery life is about 5 hours then you will need to charge it
