Review: A quirky out-of-the box read.. - "How had I ended up with these losers? I hated the words they used: inner child, self-care, intimacy, self-love. I was asking life advice, couched in the language of suicide, from a friend in a mental hospital. This was the direction my life had taken. I was like a cactus, a storer of water, and not a creature who naturally immersed in the water. I didn’t take things lightly. I hoarded." Melissa Broder, The Pisces. Longlisted for the #WomensPrize for Fiction 2019. was in for a rollercoaster ride of a lifetime..🎢 📖Title- The Pisces 📖Author- Melissa Broder 📖Publisher- Bloomsbury 📖Format - Kindle Edition 📖Total number of pages-281 📖 Genre - Literary Erotica/Magical Realism/Dark Humour 📖The Pisces talks about existential crisis in a borderline nymphomaniac who has depression with suicidal tendencies 😬 Introducing Lucy, an unlikable protagonist is stuck with her thesis about gaps in Sappho's poetry & ends her relationship with her long-term boyfriend Jamie, whom she instantly craves back. She travels from Phoenix, Arizona to Venice,LA to deal with her heart break. She joins a group therapy of women who are trying to deal with their hypersexuality. She stays at her sister's glass beach house & ignores caring for the diabetic dog, Dominic. In her pursuit of sex, lust, love & happiness, she ends up with Theo, a Merman on the rocks! 😬 📖Rating - 4.8🌟/5 .The story is simultaneously fascinating & hilarious. I finished reading the book in 3 days & quite liked the unputdownable narrative which is brutal, raw & thought - provoking. But,mind you!😬 This book's not everyone's cup of tea coz it talks about some really sensitive mental health issues & it has sexually explicit content. Do pick it up if you want to read something really quirky..📚❤ Review: Visceral - Brilliant book. Has that Raw kinetic energy, couldn't put it down. Amazing, highly recommended. Looking forward to more from the author

Unusual Read
This book may not cater to everyone's sensibilities. Darkly humorous, shocking and heartbreaking at the same time it was unlike anything I have read in a long time. The quest for love and satisfaction are two different paths. Can you find everlasting love which will be deeply satisfying and will nourish your soul ? Maybe not humanly possible...I found this book to be intelligent and interesting.

Quirky and fun read
I really liked the first half of the book where it feels like it's about women who go to group therapy to deal with post-breakup stress/feelings. It is funny and satirical and you do want to judge the person upon the choices they make over and over again but it is full of metaphor. This is one book which either you'll end up loving or hate it as I have seen with most people. This book is more than what meets the eye and it has Merman. So up to the point where Merman hasn't arrived, I was okay but later it became something else altogether. I kind of enjoyed and disliked it at the same time but it doesn't mean I didn't get the gist behind, I did and I think that's what makes this book different. You really need to go beneath the layers to understand it. If you talk about magic realism nobody does it better then Haruki Murakami, but it's good alongside the plot of the book.

Unapologetically understanding
I feel less like an insane person every time I read Melissa Broker’s books. She’s like my mortal spirit mother.

It was not for me!
Interesting Blurb (check) Beautiful Cover Art (check) Glowing Reviews (check) I picked this book with a lot of expectations. I wanted to start my Summer Reads with a light, funny book! But, alas, the story couldn't deliver what I was looking for! I couldn't find hilarity in animal negligence or mental health issues or suicide attempts. So, even when I wanted to love the book, I just couldn't. Maybe I am a bit more sensitive at the moment than I usually am. But, in a way this book was not good for my anxiety issues and insecurities. The sexual fetishes, the protagonist's utter selfishness (in so many instances) and the constant glorification of death ~ I was uncomfortable while reading about it. Rather than making me Laugh - Out - Loud, the book left me sad.

I couldn’t relate to Lucy at all. She’s selfish, delusional, and completely ungrateful. She’s obsessed with her own problems, acts recklessly, and the climax felt hypocritical and frustrating. The constant Sappho references without context only added to the confusion. Overall, shallow and self-indulgent.

If you liked The Shape of Water but thought it could have more of your depression thoughts and worst actions, this is the book for you.

I learned tons from this book. Felt related and made me think about my previous relationships. This was the book I needed to read to forgive myself.

Un romance oscuro narrado de un modo en que sólo Melissa Broder sabría hacerlo.

A fast and steamy read it narrates pop culture perfectly. Highly recommended if you like Bret Easton Ellis and if you found him too cruel.
