No it does not keep you warm. I use it for sun protection. A word of caution; I ordered a size XXL and they sent m a size XL. The shirt was different than pictured also. I would not buy this again.

Does this keep you warm in cold water?

Water temps between 55 and 70 it is great. Below 55 degrees you need a dry suit or 3mm thickness.

I am 6'4". Can anyone tell me if this is going to be too short for me? Also, based on your experience, could this be used for hiking?

From the question you don't indicate what size you are ordering. I would order an extra large to make sure it will fit. I am 6 foot tall and weigh 190, I ordered a large and it fits me just right. I have a small orchard with 35 fruit trees so when I go out to the orchard I wear my O'Neill shirt and it does just fine for the UV protection, it is also comfortable, I would say this shirt would do just fine for hiking, as a hiker make sure you take along the right kind of backup shirt, maybe a sweat shirt or a light weight tee shirt. for the hotter part of the day. But as a hiker you already know that being prepared is the most important part of the days journey.
