how long is the seed good to put out?

To be honest our goldfinches have been consuming these seeds at such a high rate, that the issue of how long they are good for has never been a concern. We have used the entire bag in less than a month

How long can you keep the Niger seed out before it starts to go stale

It does not go stale as far as I can tell...the birds love Wagner seeds and do not like other seeds as well. I just keep filling the feeder until it is used up. I ordered the 20lb bag of Wagners Nyjer seed and mix it with other Wagner seed (Southern Blend).

Would this seed be appropriate for the northwest, west of the cascades (washington state)? the bird chart seems made for other parts of n.america...

Absolutely, Nyjer Seed is a favorite of the American Goldfinch, which incidentally is the State bird of Washington.

Is this seed good for human consumption? Niger seeds are popular delicacy in South India.

I would think so., although the label does not state that it can be consumed by humans. They look and smell good. Very little stem/ trash . Just nice seeds. The birds love them.
