Hi. What kind of wood the cutting board made of?

I read somewhere that the board is made of birch wood.

Description says open, it's 1.4" high and closed its 1.37 inches high. Can someone explain how the board can be thinner folded in half than open?

It's not, but the feet counter sink into the unit when folded. The wood is 21/32 " thick. Unfolded the unit stands 13/16" tall. Folded it is 1 5/16" thick.
