Easy WiFi To Go
This is a great way to take your WIFI service with you in your car or wherever there is no WIFI service available on your plan. It can, however, get a bit pricey if more than one person uses the hotspot at one time or use is for an extended period of time. Easy to use. Nice , clear instructions.

Save your money!
Plugged this in to charge and used for about a day then charged again. The unit would run for a couple of minutes and then drop internet access. After being on the phone for about 45 minutes with tech support, I was told that I left the unit plugged in to long to charge and ruined the battery. Not happy!

Hockey puck connection for the desperate.
First I bought mine at Wally World, not here. I am not going to recommend this to casual user. I live in boonies and dialup became impossible. There is no DSL or cable available on my road. And where DSL is available its $$$ cause there is no competition and they only offer it as part of a bundle. Its either cellular (cause I am not real long way from interstate as crow flies) or satellite.I tried this cause in my area it uses Verizon network which is very usable. I also tried Virgin Mobile but Sprint network here is very fringe.Anyway it was kind of a pain to set up, and the Straight Talk website was not in any sense dialup friendly. Dialup is what I had available when I bought it. Finally friend with DSL helped and we got it working. Calling customer service is pointless. Now I had read of how fast data is used. I closely monitored it the first month. Frankly most people simply arent aware how much data is used by various apps phoning home and updating and all the bandwidth hogging by hidden scripts on websites wanting to track you and sell you stuff. With most household connections, one just isnt forced to pay attention to nitty gritty details of how much data is used.I spent great deal of time blocking the free-for-all updates and used NO-SCRIPT extension on Firefox along with AD-BLOCK. Also no video, didnt even install plugins for such. After all that, its ok. It basically lets me do what I could do on dialup fifteen years ago for a fourth of the money. So much for progress, all I got was mega inflation. I use around 4gb data a month. Yes I could limit myself even more to just email and banking, but dont.Oh and one other thing, you need an alternate way to add reserve data plan. It wont do it automatically. If you sign up for what they call automatic, it doesnt add the plan when you run out of data, it waits until the end of the period the existing plan would be good for if you hadnt already used it up.So you need some other way to get to your account on Straight Talk website. And dialup isnt a good option for doing this. You will need to stop at some wifi hotspot or library or friend or something. You are alternatively suppose to be able to phone customer service to trigger a reserve plan. Again unless you have lot time to waste, this isnt really practical. No idea whey they dont set it up like Virgin Mobile where you can still get to your account online even after your data expires, but they dont. Now I just leave it plugged into usb on my desktop computer all time so no idea how long battery lasts though from size assume not very long. They make usb battery packs to charge cell phones, would suggest one of the larger ones would work well with this.

Slow internet, mediocre battery
This device used to be decent when it was being sold a few years ago as Straight Talk Wireless' primary hotspot device. However, they now sell an LTE hotspot and this UMX device is now offered free if you sign up for the service. There's a reason why it's free. That's because it uses Verizon's 3G network which is going away soon. In addition, the speeds are very slow. Expect to see an average of 1 Mbps up/down.Besides the speed, the battery is very mediocre. Don't expect to get any more than 3-4 hours. And, after having it for a couple of years like I have, it'll probably only get a couple hours. This device will be fine for internet in a pinch when you're on vacation especially since you can reactivate the device even if you stop using the service for a while. But, I would not buy this as my daily driver for regular hotspot use.
