Bold & smooth
I purchased the San Francisco Bay Coffee French Roast whole bean coffee and have been very happy with it. If you enjoy a dark roast, this one delivers a bold, rich flavor without tasting burnt or overly bitter, which can sometimes happen with darker roasts. The beans are fresh and consistent in size, and they grind well for a variety of brewing methods. I’ve used them for drip coffee and French press, and both came out smooth with a deep, full-bodied taste. The aroma while brewing is strong and inviting, and the flavor holds up well even when taken black. Despite being a dark roast, it’s surprisingly smooth and easy to drink. There’s no harsh aftertaste, and it doesn’t feel acidic. The 2-pound bag is a great value and lasts a good amount of time, especially if you brew coffee daily. Overall, this is a solid choice for anyone who enjoys a classic French roast. It’s flavorful, smooth, and dependable, and I would definitely purchase it again.

A Trustworthy Dark Roast, But No Revolutionary Spark
San Francisco Bay Coffee’s Dark Roast Whole Bean (French Roast) is exactly what it promises to be: a straightforward, bold cup of coffee for fans of deeply roasted beans. As someone who cycles through various coffee brands and roast levels, I approach these reviews with a mix of curiosity and practicality. Here’s my take. The Good First off, the product delivers. The 2 lb bag is a solid size for home brewers or regular consumers, offering good value for the price. The beans are uniformly roasted, with a rich, oily sheen that hints at a well-executed roast. Grinding them fresh (as you should with whole beans) releases a smoky, almost charred aroma typical of a French roast—think dark chocolate, toasted nuts, and a whisper of campfire. The flavor is no-nonsense: bold, tannic, and slightly bitter, with a lingering finish. It’s the kind of coffee that grabs your attention and pairs well with a hearty breakfast or a rainy afternoon on the couch. For those who enjoy dark roasts, this is a reliable option. The Neutral Here’s where expectations matter. This isn’t a “wow” moment. The taste is classic but unremarkable in the realm of dark roasts. There’s nothing particularly unique or game-changing about the flavor profile compared to similar products from larger chains or smaller roasters. It lacks the subtle fruitiness or acidity that some medium roasts offer, but if you’re a dark roast purist, that’s intentional. The beans brew consistently, whether in a French press, drip machine, or espresso setup, but nothing about the body or finish felt exceptional. It’s the coffee equivalent of a classic black turtleneck—timeless, functional, but not likely to inspire a cult following. The Verdict So, is it worth buying? Absolutely, if you’re a fan of traditional dark roasts and want a dependable product without the premium price tag. It’s a great go-to for everyday use, especially if you prefer your coffee strong enough to stand up to milk or robust enough to fuel a morning routine. However, if you’re chasing innovation, unique flavor notes, or a single-origin story, this isn’t the one to grab. Final Rating: 4 Stars It’s a textbook example of a well-made French roast that meets expectations but doesn’t exceed them. As I always say: your mileage may vary. If the idea of “dark, bold, and smoky” makes your day, this is a solid pick. But if you’re dreaming of revolutionary coffee that redefines the category, keep exploring. The coffee world is vast, and sometimes, the “bee’s knees” are just a click away.

Great tasting coffee and Smells awesome when grinding!
This is great decaf!! I really like the taste and it makes a fantastic cup of black coffee. Not bitter, and for me I have no stomach issues (acidity) at all. I intend to buy more and make this my "go to" for decaf from now on. I highly recommend you try this if you like decaf. The smell from the beans in my grinder is pretty awesome too !

Convenient to buy in a pinch
It’s convenient being able to get whole bean coffee on Amazon, but the taste isn’t great. Maybe it’s the plastic bag it’s stored in, but the taste and smell are off and not worth the price. The 2lb Costco bags have better tasting options for less.

Is this love? ☕️ 💗
Please let me start by reassuring you that this is a rare moment as I'm not one to normally write reviews. I'm also not being paid for this review. I'm simply in love with this coffee. As I sit here in what everyone is referring to as the "storm of the century", I reached over to take another sip of coffee and had a strong moment of reflection on how damn good this coffee truly is. The moment the mug drew near, my nose picked up such a beautiful aroma of mocha and it has such a wonderful nutty mocha flavor that is always soft and smooth without a hint of bitterness. I have been consistently purchasing Fog Chaser every since I discovered it here on Amazon almost 2 years ago. I am, dare I say, more committed to this coffee than any man or job I've ever had. I find the price reasonable for a 2lb bag, but I was beyond titillated for the Black Friday deal and bought 4 bags! As a former Barista and lifelong coffee lover, my sincere appreciation to you, San Francisco Bay coffee. You’ve officially set the bar, and my mornings, very high.

We were looking for a reasonably priced, tasty decaf coffee. I decided to look on Amazon because I could read reviews from verified purchasers and set up a regular delivery. I found this supplier by chance and ordered a bag of beans. We were pleasantly surprised at the quality of the coffee considering the beans were cheaper than more well known brands. The resulting cup is strong, and full of flavour. There is no chemical taste and friends who don't drink decaf, haven't ever realised that they're drinking a decaf coffee. We use the beans in a bean to cup machine and never have any issues with the brewing unit cloggin because the beans are too oily. I would recommend these beans for a decent cup of decaf coffee, that doesn't taste like decaf!
