Good value, quick and easy to use
It comes in a fairly sturdy box which is a useful size and shape for storage (an odd-ish colour, but whatever). It also feels like the unit is well protected in there with the foam packaging, but it's not a pain to pack/unpack the unit. The clip to my box came off - not sure if that's by design but it clips back on securely when the box is closed, just keep an eye on it when opened. The box contains everything listed, and all works fine. The unit itself is the star: has a nice weight to it, looks great and feels well-made. It's kinda fun to use if you're into sciencey stuff. The hinge to the plate, the adjustment screw, and adjusting the eyepiece all work fine and as expected, are robust, and pleasing to use.I measured my shop-bought vodka which says 37.5% on the bottle, it read: 35%. But I didn't spend a massive amount of time calibrating at the beginning, and played it fast-and-loose with allowing the sample to come to room temperature. So some of that small error might be me. It is very easy and clear to read though. It does take a tiny amount of practise, and a steady hand, to get the liquid to spread over the entirety of the plate, but I got there in a couple of attempts.Given the quality and accuracy, I would say it's a really good price. My one gripe is the instructions: they're not the clearest. If anything they make it more complicated than it is. However if you stick with it and use the equipment as you go it does all make sense in the end. Finally, there is a typo in my instructions, it says: "step 1, step 2, step 3, step 3"; rather than the more traditional: 1, 2, 3, 4. Not a massive issue but a little disappointing considering it's a precision instrument...In conclusion: a quality, good value instrument; easy to use, great for anyone who needs a quick and easy reading with decent accuracy.

Does the job
I purchased this product to use for testing my Dairy cow's colostrum. It arrived in a sturdy carry case with a sponge inlay to keep it from rattling around. I did however have to strip it down as one of the inner lenses had moved out of place which distorted the image when looking through the eye piece. Aside from that it works really well, and gives me the results I need withing seconds after placing a drop of colostrum on the sampling area. A handy tool for any dairyman.

works well, but i dont use much of the scale.
i used it for testing tonic salt concentrations in freshwater aquaculture - with constant water changes its difficult to know how much salt is in there i thought - fact is a TDS meter does the same job and is a lot cheaper, i'll have to take up brewing to make it worth the investment!!. it barely moves on the dial, you have to look very closely, even when acids and bases have been added to adjust the pH.

Not for beer alcohol measurement
Calibrated it measured a gin at 40% - correctBeer still has sugar in it, and measured a 4.5% beer at 13%. Obviously you can make adjustments based on taking data from various beer types and strengths and making notes for future batches. I’m not aware of any correction factor calculations for the purpose of beer making.

Accurate
Great quality product and came in a handy storage case that holds the parts. Verified against a traditional alcometer and appears to be accurate. Time will tell whether it lasts for a long time but it seems good so far and its less fiddly than an alcometer. it does seem a bit cheap as an object but it works so no complaints.

Does what it’s supposed to do but feels light and flimsy compared with my original
Very much smaller than my original- would have cost upwards of 120ponds to replace. This is adequate for my work, checking Brixton for blackcurrants destined for Ribena. The pipete was missing when delivered.

Ok for start sg
Great for starting sg but gives a high reading when wine finished. Have to use hydometer for final sg

Does what its supposed to do
Reading the OG is sometimes quite tricky, if there is not a perfect light conditions. But it works great so far.
