Part of the keys to stress-free, injury-free wearing of cowboy boots for older folks!
Cowboy boots saved my feet from the ravages of plantar fasciitis, and made it possible for me to walk again. It’s taken years to get over that, though I’ll probably never be normal again, but at least I can get around in cowboy boots, which support my feet in ways that Nikes and other soft shoes cannot compete. More specifically, Lucchese Boots from El Paso have done this for me. Other brands that I’ve tried were as bad as the Nike shoes. Lucchese boots are like having custom-fitted boots, and once you find your size, all their boots of that size will fit you. Remarkably consistent! That’s to set the stage for what happened next. I found that in getting older, it was hard for me to put on or remove cowboy boots. My father had once slipped a disk when putting on his boots, so I’ve always been leery of bending over and pulling them on. Enter these boot pulls. They are sturdy — the steel hooks are rigid and strong and the wooden handles will never break under the stresses for which they were intended. The shape of the hooks is special, too. Such hooks need to slide easily under the “ears” of the boots, the loops of leather designed for you to hook your fingers in them and pull. Since these loops spend most of their time laying flat against your leg, and the whole point of them is to stay out of the way until needed, the steel hooks need to be flattened at the tip so that you can easily slide them inside the loops without bending over to do THAT. There is no plastic involved; wood and steel mean that these hooks will last a lifetime. They are very well designed and made. The 13” hooks mean that you won’t have to bend over to pull on your boots.I sometimes find myself taking off my boots in various places, so I got a bootjack for each of those places to make it easy to pull them off. But then I have to pull them back on before walking. Barefoot walking has been impossible for me for about 4 or 5 years now, though I’m just now beginning to get close to that again, thanks to the support my boots have given me, enabling my feet to literally grow back straight again. (And they have done so. I’m vastly better now than 5 years ago.) So, that means that wherever I take off my boots, I need some of these hooks to put them back on. That’s why I bought 4 pair of them. I keep them in the places where I naturally dress, sit and relax, or change into other boots (think muck boots in the garage, which I change into during rainy weather). So, if anything I said about plantar fasciitis or foot pain in general resonates with your own experience, you might want to get some of these pulls for the boots that are helping your feet to heal. And if you get some, but you live in a large house, or have multiple locations where you might be pulling on boots, get enough of these to distribute so they’ll be near at hand when you need them. Four pair did it for me.With these, I can straighten my back completely while pulling on my boots. That’s luxurious! No chance of pulling my spine out of place, or pulling a muscle while forcing on recalcitrant boots over my high arches. Once they’re on, of course, they feel like I’m wearing gloves on my feet. But getting them there... that’s another thing. And these pulls are exactly what the doctor ordered. Actually, the way I look at it, these are helping me keep the doctor away. I’m much better off since I started using these.
