Only for very determined beginners - most will not finish
As a fairly determined individual willing to put hours into practise at the weekend and a competent guitarist, I thought I would have no problem following along with this book however, the learning curve gets very steep around 'day 7'.The whole 14 days thing is just a nonsense, maybe for someone who is either a professional musician or extremely gifted, it took me several days (>10 hours) of dedicated practise to complete day 8, with some activities that are supposed to take 15 minutes often requiring hours to complete. I have no problem with things being hard but this is supposed to be an absolute beginner book - and when activities that the book is telling you should take 15 minutes take an entire day to master it is just demoralising! If the book was laid out differently and didn't give you time 'targets' the whole thing would be psychologically better. As it is, I could see beginners being put off.Other negative factors are the accompanying audio files (whilst useful) are not in book order in the zip files when you download them (very lazy publishing) and the streaming on soundcloud gives no option to play them on a loop, meaning significant faffing restarting manually - small things that make it a frustrating experience to use. The book itself is also flimsy (magazine quality) with low res black and white images, prob wouldn't recommend it as a gift.On the positive side, the exercises are logically laid out and help you learn key techniques, the book has taught me a lot and really aided my learning. It would be a solid 4 star product if it were not for the demoralising 'time targets' and moderately frustrating audio files.

Excellent First Book for Beginners
I am in my late fifties and totally new to drumming (my only prior experience with music is digital keyboards, that I taught myself..and that is pretty basic stuff too). I bought this book and Alesis Turbo Mesh kit to begin with. On second day, I surprised my family by playing along Michael Jackson's Billie Jean!!Things I liked:Comes with free downloadable Mp3s. You don't have to buy the book to get the audio files. This helps us first 'listen to the content' and then decide. After teaching some techniques, author suggests us what songs we should listen to or try to play along with and this is super useful to build some confidence. (And it's a nice feeling to play along with some famous/popular songs, from a beginner's perspective)Mp3 files are titled the same way as in the book. So, we can download the Mp3s first and get a clear idea about what we are going to learn. In short lessons,, the book teaches:Time signatures and rhythmsSome snare drum rudimentsEssential beatsBasic fills and groovesBass drum patterns andCymbal techniquesThere is nothing much that I did not like. This book (and maybe couple of free youtube videos, to see how drummers actually hold the drumstic and similar basic stuff) ) is enough to get started, if one is planning to teach onself. I wish the book had a small chapter on electronic drum basics as well.Overall, i liked the book.

Not for a beginner
Definitely not for a child, perhaps ok for an older teen with some knowledge of drums.
