Smaller in size but no less perfect for decoration or roleplay.
If you're looking for a quality, low cost, and slightly smaller than normal replica of Star Trek's communicator, then definitely consider this one. It's a bit smaller than the on-screen original props used on Star Trek, but if that doesn't bother you, then this will be a perfect addition to any Trekkie's collection. The communicator looks and feels almost exactly like it does in the original series, and comes complete with lights and sounds. The button on the left, makes the iconic chirping sound while the button on the right plays a few seconds of sci-fi sounds. Both makes the lights on the communicator flash while the sounds are playing. The yellow mesh-like "guard" on the communicator doesn't flip up and down quite as easily as it does on the show though. You need to use your fingers on the round edges where the guard meets the communicator to flip it open. Then you can close it shut normally, but this is, so far, the only drawback I've seen with this prop. Also included is a little booklet exploring the history of the communicator prop which is worth the read. So if you're looking for a quality (albeit smaller sized) replica of Star Trek's iconic communicator, then definitely give this prop your consideration.

A little smaller than original!
Be aware that this is not a 1:1 full size replica. It's close. I would say it's approximately 2/3 size and noticeably smaller than the real one. Can't beat it for the price.PROS- Looks, colors and textures like the original. Moire pattern disk, although stationary, gives the illusion of movement when you view it from different angles. The three LED gems (blue, red, blue) light up when buttons are pressed. Two buttons-two sounds. The button on left sounds the original chirping sound while the button on the right sounds a combination of static and radar-like beacon. The texture of the black plastic is bumpy like the original. And finally the price can't be beat when compared with other alternatives.CONS- NOT 1:1 - It's slightly smaller than the original at about 2/3 the size. All Plastic. The brass colored flip cover does not "flip" - you must physically open it with your other hand or use your finger on the hinge. Does not chirp when opened like the original - The left button does the chirp. It's also very light because of all plastic construction.Given its shortcomings I still rated it 4 stars because it's a decent replica and you can't beat the price when compared to others. It comes with a tiny 3"x2.5" booklet with full color photos from TOS and some useful information. Both communicator and booklet come in a full-color 3.5"x3"x1 7/8" box.

PRETTY COOL!
It's surely not as big as the real thing (if the real thing were actually real), but it is a decent size & very realistic for the price. I wish it had a few other sounds I remember from the show, like the Hailing whistle. This one only has two.

Cute and accurate
Love how it looks and feels nice in the hand. Makes cute accurate sounds and the three lights go off when you press the button. Neat little booklet with facts about the communicator was fun to read and I enjoyed the classic photos.

Good quality. Nice detail. Faithful representation.
Good quality. Nice detail. Faithful representation. This is not a full size replica; it's approximately 2/3 actual size - which I knew before ordering. Still, it's a nice addition to my collection of quality Star Trek TOS items.

Fun and accurate Trek toy!
I purchase this as a gift for a friend. We started what became the world's largest independent Star Trek fan club back in 1974. If I had a complaint about this product I would say that it could have used some more weight inside as this felt light and made it feel a little more like a toy and less like a prop.
