Will this work for 83A (same size, just more ink?)

Depends on the model you're using it for. I made the mistake of buying this for an MFP M127fn which it does not physically fit into. However it does work with our MFP M225fw, so be sure to check the model list on this as it doesn't work with every model that uses the 83A

Can this toner be used for printing micr checks?

No. Micr is a special type of toner.

Why won't this fit into my hp laserjet pro mfp m127fw? i have the 83a which fits fine but this 83x won't.

The 83x is not compatible with your printer per HP. Do not know why HP would not make a high-output toner for your m127fw printer, but, apparently only the 83A toner fits you printer
