I don't see why not. The child I bought it for, my great-grandniece, is 9, and she loved it -- your granddaughter would produce a more sophisticated book, but she should enjoy all the more seeing it published. But keep in mind that the drawings and not just the text are a big part of the project, so her work would have to be something that accommodates that.
