Strange Brew (Refresh/DVD)

Greatest Canadian movie ever made
I feel like this is in the category of a neglected classic, if someone with power is paying attention this deserves a rescan and new blu-ray.I'll admit I was a little nervous getting this DVD, I loved this movie as a kid, and I was afraid it wouldn't hold up. To my complete surprise, I loved it as much or more than the first time I saw it.Okay, full disclosure, it has a lot of little boy humor in it, fart jokes, etc. My favorite parts are still the scenes with Hosehead the magic dog, and the first scene in which he appears he growls at Bob and Doug because they try to take back the beer they put in his dog dish (they succeed by giving him a jelly donut instead).* This is not highbrow stuff. Also, a big scene is Bob drinks so much beer he pees on a fire and puts it out. Again, last warning, this is not highbrow entertainment. That said, there is just something really endearing about these two idiot brothers and how they move through the world. They abuse and tease each other, but they also cannot bear to be separated. They get a job at a beer factory by accident (actually, they are trying to con them out of free beer), and life is good. When push comes to shove, they come through and save the day by suggesting that their dog solve the problem, and, of course, it works. :)So I love this stupid movie, its dumb hockey scenes ("No goal! No goal! It was in the crease!") and its flying "Toronto skunk." So watch it, you knob, because my brother's a genius, he once got our dead battery goin' by mixin' bird feces and spit, and if you'd stick to your 12-point maintenance program, eh, then we wouldn't have to jump-start you like this!

Shakespeare and Beer - It's A Beauty Way To Go!
Filmed in Hose-o-Rama, the Blu-ray version of "The Adventures Of Bob and Doug McKenzie: Strange Brew" is visually stunning, especially if you've consumed a few beers. Max von Sydow, as Brewmeister Smith, is almost as amusing as his character in Ingmar Bergman's movie "The Seventh Seal," in which he played chess with Death. Hamlet and cheese, with donuts and beer, make for a deliciously funny film. One of the funniest scenes is where Bob is locked up in a brewery tank, which is filling up with beer. Bob manages to drink all of the beer, expanding to a huge size. As he relieves himself, he manages to single-handedly put out a fire! One of the bonus features is the SCTV sketch in which Bob and Doug McKenzie discuss the method for stuffing a mouse in a beer bottle. Another bonus feature is a trailer for "The Animated Adventures Of Bob and Doug McKenzie." The Canadian cartoon series aired in 2009. That proves that the popularity of Bob and Doug McKenzie endures, since their comedy is timeless. Take off, you hosers, and buy this DVD!

~ Great Movie to Enjoy with Friends and Make a Party of It! ~
Strange Brew is one of the husband's favorite movies to watch when he needs a laugh. It's pretty hilarious. A couple of weekends ago, we actually had a "Strange Brew" Movie Party, where we had the movie going in a couple different rooms and we dined on brats, beer/root beer, and jellies. It was a lot of fun revisiting this old favorite with friends and family. We had a lot of laughs and fun and this is likely to become a new tradition!

You're Gonna Like It, Hoser!
"Strange Brew" has got to be one of the best terrible movies ever made. How they got Max von Sydow to appear in this thing is anyone's guess; I mean, he did *Bergman* for crying out loud! At any rate, if you're looking for a good time, shut-down-my-brain-and-just-have-a-good-time flick to watch with your buds (or in my case, grown sons) while you're putting back a few Mooseheads, this is the film for you! It's just charming as all get-out, despite its inanity, and it's impossible not to like it. Unless you're a girl or a film critic. Then, odds are, you're gonna wind up going to bed early. If you're just a normal guy, however, make up a bucket of corn, load the DV player, pop a Labatt's, and enjoy this guilty pleasure.

You can't hate this movie
Yes it's old, yes it's low budget, yes the effects are garbage, and yes, the plotline is even more garbage. But then again, it's sole plot is to get free beer!Tell me that you've never wanted the get free beer, and I'll tell you, if you've never put a mouse in a bottle....you're not trying hard enough!! Plus it has Mel Blanc's voice as the father...fricken Yosemite Sam! And bugs bunny, daffy, tweetie bird, porky, fog horn....but I digress....it's a great movie, so take off hoser, eh?

Low-brau hijinks as Bob and Doug McKenzie save the world
An entertaining farce about two goofy and not very bright Canucks and their adventure in saving the world from a mad brewery scientist plotting to enslave humanity with his special beer. The special effects are gloriously old-hat, positively primitive in fact, and the clothes and hairstyles are so 1980 that it almost hurts to see. Bob and Doug McKenzie are absolutely hilarious in this silly story. Mel Blanc (of the original Bugs Bunny / Looney Tunes fame) does a guest voice-over as the McKenzie parental units. I talked my teenage sons into watching this with me and at first they almost bolted out of the room due to the ancient video / audio quality (blu-ray or not, it is most definitely NOT high definition), but after a few minutes they settled down and by the middle of the movie they were laughing their butts off.

Hey, I found a mouse in a case of YOUR movie, and I was told when that happens, by my friend who's a cop, that when this happens you need to give me a free movie.

Great movie, bad encoding
The movie is spectacular and hilarious. The bluray on the other hand, was encoded incorrectly and wouldn't play sound at regular speed. I had to speed it up to 1.5x regular speed to get the audio to play. Thought it was a fluke until I tried it on a different player, same issue. Returned it and got a second, exactly the same issue. Ended up just getting a refund.

Wacky, Crazy- over the top eh?
Strange Brew is an oddity. The film won't work for everyone, but for everyone else, just sit back relax and enjoy weird offbeat humour and crazy, crazy characters- and thats just our heroes.Doug and Bob McKenzie live for just one thing beer- so they are delighted to end up working for a brewery. Thing is this isn't any old brewery. Here the people in charge have a room where they are conducting expreiments to rule the world through beer manipulation.Max Von Sydow is the standout actor here, and you can tell that he is really enjoying himself as the bad villian. A break at least for him from more sombre down beat roles. In truth its like watching an old James Bond movie twisted with one liners straight out of Airplane. But the humour is more thought out, more dry if you like. The joke is there then gone, so this as aforementioned won't be too everybody's taste. It's a good movie though, just expect the unexpected. Would be good to watch this, followed by Waynes World and then Bill and Teds first movie.

Great film
Took a while to get here and there was some confusion over the discs region but the seller sorted it out real fast. The region by the way is 0 meaning it can be played anywhere. Strange Brew is a great film, it is the original Bill and Ted/Wayne's World. And even funnier you hoser eh. So take off to the great white north and watch this classic.
