To use with a single (large) 6v battery: what type of battery terminals req.: spring type ? or,...? thanks

Why? It's designed for AA batteries....works just fine. Or go buy a flashlight that uses 6v. battery.

Anyone know how many lumens this flashlight puts out?

I can't tell you how many lumens, but mine will shine a bright narrow beam 20-30 feet away pretty easily. I'm impressed by how much light it puts out for its weight, as it weighs hardly anything.

How do I install the 4 AA batteries??

Unscrew the black top then use a flashlight to see the + and - at the black base of where each battery goes if you need to know which direction to but the batteries. I never remember!
