How wide are these? I am hoping they are 1” or less, so that they would fit on piano keys to help young students. e.g., Airplane on “A.”

Yes they are small enough to fit on piano keys.

Can these boats fit inside a standard size water bottle?

They do not fit into a 16 oz water bottle.

My son plays with these in the mud. Can I wash them in the dishwasher or will they melt?

I put them in the dishwasher. No issues
