All the Forgivenesses

Finished it in two days
Strong main character reminded me of people I know in life. This book tells a story of human beings living through hard things but coming out on the other side of them stronger and better people. Small things in a life can have a huge impact. And it takes a long time for young people to come to terms with their childhood traumas.

Read this!
I just finished reading All the Forgiveness. This is one of the best books I’ve read in a long time. It offers hope in a world full of darkness. I truly believe it gives us a glimpse of what life used to be like. The book was very well written, and it left me feeling joyful when I finished reading the last page. Read it; you’ll be so glad you did!

Moving
Loved all of the characters and the way if speaking read easily for me as it's how I heard my mother's family speak while growing up (Kentucky hills). I gobbled this book up quickly.

Step into an impoverished American woman’s world in the early 20th century
The character development is rich and brilliant….This dear, simple woman’s life as she constantly faces trials and deals with them is humbling. So many details on life for Appalachian women left me in awe and gratitude, not only for my life over a hundred years later, but for a master storyteller’s skill. Ultimately, I couldn’t put the book down and read it straight through to the end over a Sunday afternoon. This heroine will stay with me for a long time.

readable altho a bit too much guilt for me
I liked the realistic view of the family’s life and hardship, living conditions and financial limitations. I had a problem with the heavy guilt the author had a 6 year old take on regarding her “watching” her sibling an various other situations. The whole theme of guilt seemed to drag down the narrative. I believe the theme of hardship and rough living could be achieved without years and years and years piled a top each other. It made the main character seem self centered and unimaginative with limited intelligence. And maybe thats what she was going for but I don’t see the value in a theme such as that.
