Grill with complete confidence with this basic yet reliable, accurate thermometer
Received the thermometer a few days ago and have been testing its features since. It came packaged in an attractive and sturdy cardboard box a little larger than itself. Like a heck of a lot of things these days, it was manufactured in China. The instructions are a bit spartan but nevertheless describe its functions adequately in perfect English (misspelling excluded). It's easy to program. It's about the size and weight of a DVR remote control (without batteries). The temperature probe is about four feet long fully extended which is sufficient for a small BBQ grill. It requires one AAA battery that is installed in the back which is accessed by opening the door on the back from the middle outward as shown in the photos I provided. The device does not have an on/off switch but it really doesn't need one because the LCD display draws so little power that the battery will probably last a year or more before it needs to be replaced (I have a humidistat with an LCD display which has been on 24/7 for the past two years with the original AAA battery).I set the time when I put the battery in - that was three days ago. After three days, the time on the display still agrees to the minute with my desktop PC and the thermostat for the HVAC system in my home (as you can see in the photo).I tested temperature up to 160°F (hot water as dispensed by my Keurig). The alert function for reaching temperature worked properly. The audio alarm sounded when the water from the Keurig surpassed 150°F.Just for fun, I took my temperature with it as well. Right at 98°F where it should be (as you can see in the photo I included). And you can also see that the Sharkk thermometer temperature agrees with the wall thermostat for present time and temperature as well.I haven't used it with my grill yet but I have little doubt that it will read the internal temperature of a chicken or roast correctly and will alert me when the temperature I set is reached. I will obviously need to be by the grill to hear the alarm but that's not a major inconvenience when you're entertaining since someone is usually hovering around the grill anyway. I don't plan on setting the temperature above 190°F which is the highest temperature that's actually needed for about any meat I'll grill. Using this thermometer to monitor grill temperature itself is probably asking for trouble since a gas or charcoal grill temperature can exceed 600°F when fired up.There are grill thermometers equipped with a transmitter and a receiver that you can carry around your house......and you'll also pay quite a bit more for the convenience. Overkill if you ask me (but no one's asking, right?).In summary, the Sharkk grill thermometer does everything it's supposed to and does it well so it has earned my 5 star rating.

Failed on 4th use - now what?
I have had it just a little over the 30 days window for returns and have used it exactly four times. On this, my 4th use, the thermometer suddenly shot up to 300+ degrees and then began registering HHH - I assume meaning, too high. I removed the probe and it went to LLL (too Low). Despite the probe returning to room temperature, whenever I plug it in I get HHH on the readout.Added to the lack of on/off switch, which means I have to remove the battery after each use, I would declare this item pretty much a failure. Now I am going to try to get a replacement probe, device, or both - wish me luck!

Cheap and flimsy
Only had it for a day, but did a few tests with cold and hot water. It consistently seems about 4 degrees off so far, which I can live with, but it's definitely not "within 1.5F accuracy" as the spec states. I initially installed a rechargeable battery, but figuring that the voltage might be a little off I replaced it with an alkaline. No difference. The battery lid and the stand are so flimsy that I don't expect this to last long. When opening up the stand you usually end up opening the battery compartment as well. There's no turning the unit off so I hope it lasts a long time on the battery. This thing isn't the most expensive so I suppose I got what I paid for. Functionality wise everything seems to work as described.

Five Stars
I thought this was a great product for the first month and now it is completely haywire! suggested this to friends and family and they are very unhappy with theirs as well. Nice when new, but doesn't last, do not buy this!
