NOT PERFECT....BUT PRETTY CLOSE
Less than impressed with the sellers ship speed. It seems like they spent a week twiddling their thumbs before getting it in the mail. That said, it did show up as advertised and decently packaged. The knife itself is overall very satisfactory. It exceeds my expectations both for function & fashion. I didn't have any of the issues others spoke of such as dullness or blade wobble. The open assist on this knife is a thing of beauty. It literally slams open with such force you almost feel like it should come with a seat belt for your hand so it doesn't fly away. But after the first time or two you open it, it feels normal. This is my first benchmade knife, tho I've had several with open assist. Never had one that opened with such an attitude. I'm thinking this is something you'll either love or hate. Personally I love it. No slow wimpy crawl to open with this one. BANG it's open.My only complaint (besides the price tag) and it's a small one is, as others have mentioned, the width of the blade. Looking at it in my hand it just looks like the blade should be a bit thicker. This is mainly for aesthetics. A knife is a tool for cutting. Not prying or any other of the idiotic things people try to make their knives do. So if you're using it for its intended purpose, the blade should be plenty thick enough. I'm just a stickler for proportional proportions.Only time will tell if it's worth the cost. I've been carrying it for about 3 weeks. Others said the open assist became even more fluid with use. We'll see. It's a beefy little knife. Big enough to be used for self defense in a pinch, but (IMO) not too bulky for EDC. I'm very happy with it and hope to get plenty of service from it.

Benchmade improved an already perfect product!
I've happily been using my 3 or 4 year-old original Benchmade Barrage 580, yet felt compelled to upgrade to this "new" knife, primarily because of the S30V steel used in the blade. And the gray G10 handle helped make the decision, too. My old Barrage, formerly my EDC knife, likely will go to a family member. After all these days of carrying the "old" knife, it seems just a whisker slower to open than the new one. BUT, both models prove to be really great, functional knives that will not let you down, provided you give a bit of care to them. (Like many, I'm prone to using my knife to open packages, cutting through tape, etc. That will gum up the blade. I just use a bit of Goo Gone and it cleans the blade right up.)And, as a part-time professional knife sharpener and sales person, I have to admit that our Benchmade customers seem to come in less often for what usually seems to be a "touch-up" on their blade. (My partner and I work in a ranch-country area, and see all kinds of knives. HARDEST thing on all those knives usually seems to be cutting the twine on round bales. Said twine has kevlar, a proven hard substance. We always recommend using a box cutter on the twine, and saving the knife for other everyday use!)Yes, this new knife's price increased substantially, but so did the longevity of the steel. I found it worthwhile, and suspect most buyers will, too.

Great knife needed sharpening out of the box!
Benchmade puts approximately a 30 degree edge (60 degrees total) on its knives from the factory. My knife was about that sharp, but would not cut paper out of the box. A quick change to 25 degrees was achieved with Work Sharp belt grinder. The S30V steel in the Benchmade 580-2 takes a few more minutes to sharpen than some other steels, but holds its edge well.Blade centering was good, but off a tiny bit. All in all, I'm very pleased with the knife.

Quality is a cut above!
My first benchmade. Won’t be my last! Blade material is amazing. Edge retention is fantastic. Factory edge is a thing of beauty. Panels are very comfortable and even though this knife is thicker than what I usually carry, it feels great in the hand and in the pocket. Even though I touch up sharpen my blades myself, I think I will take advantage of the lifetime sharpening offer because the factory edge is so good. Going to make a point to send it back once a year. Saving the packaging for this exclusively.

Fantastic knife
The knife is high quality. The use of G10 scales and s30v blade steel is fantastic. I am very happy with the overall appearance and yes the blade is centered. If anyone is looking for a top notch assisted opening knife this is the one.

The handle was a bit weird when first used it but I grew to love it light weight but feels durable blade was razor sharp
I loved this knife when I bought it used it for over a month pretty frequently and blade didn't seem to dull at all added to that the lifetime sharpening from Benchmade made a much better buy and the blade came razor sharp and oiled

I think this is illegal in the U.K. (Spring assisted)
I think this might be illegal in the U.K. soon since it is a sprung assisted deployment and soon to be illegal. I will be requesting a refund if this is the case. Lovely knife though.
