Meh. Other DoW games are better.
I own many Days of Wonder games. Cargo noir is by far the worst one. I would place this one as my second least favorite DoW game. It's not that it's bad, it's just not that much fun to me or my regular gaming group. Especially when compared to their(DoW) many other great games. And it's only 4 player max, while most of there other games are 5 player max which is often perfect for my group. Like I said not bad just better off getting one of there other games if you dont have them. I would personally recommend Coliseum, shadows over Camelot, and pirates cove.

Complex worker placement, but maintains the fun
Worker Placement games tend to ride in that strange space between too simple and predictable and too complex and causing analysis paralysis. The River falls in the middle. Its not so simple that people can rightly complain, but at the same time there is a limited number of options and you shouldn't end up waiting too long for someone to make a decision and act.Beyond that its a fairly straight-forward point scoring game where the person who manages to get the best "engine" going will win.I like these, but its definitely a "your mileage may vary" situation. If you don't like worker placement type games, this is not for you.

A great game!!!
If you want a family version of Catan this is it! We were able to teach it to and play it with our seven year old son, while still having strategy and depth.
