Keeps out varmints and simple to install. Worth the price.
Excellent product. Simple to use and works to repel varmints. Instructions say to change the two AA batteries every 6 months. I have found that the batteries easily last much longer. I've also used the Rid-a-Rat that attaches to the vehicle's 12 volt battery. It's easy to attach and just keeps on working and working. The magnets are very strong. I've never had one come lose, no matter that long bumpy, wash board roads that I've traveled.

Far and away the best solution to pack rat problems
I wanted to wait for at least a year before writing a review, and now I can say that this product works better than anything else I have tried. I live in Arizona in a semi-rural area where pack rats are a common problem. I have tried mothballs and Irish Spring soap, but these lose their effectiveness as soon as they stop producing any odor. Opening the hood at night or placing lights under the vehicle can be effective but they are a hassle to do every night and forgetting it one night means pack rats get in again. This is the only product I have found that works continuously and requires no more effort after its initial installation. It took me a little longer to install because I removed the alligator clips and crimped on ring terminals for a more secure hold to the battery cables. However, it still only took about 15 minutes to install each one. The magnet holds securely to either the hood or firewall, and you just have to route the wires around and attach them to your battery. It is a good idea to follow the instructions and clean out your engine compartment if rodents have been in there. I used Simple Green, a soft bristle brush, and a garden hose, not a pressure washer, to thoroughly wash out my engine compartments. The best testament I can make for this product was when a dome light was accidentally left on in a vehicle parked outside. This completely ran down the battery and the Rid-a-Rat lost power. This was only time that pack rats have caused a problem since installation in any of my vehicles. As soon as the battery was charged up again and Rid-a-Rat started flashing again, the pack rats stayed away. While this "test" was unintentional, it left me with no doubts about how well Rid-a-Rat works.

Work great but you need a way to connect the small alligator clips to your battery
Works great and keeps the rats away (they chewed my wired, thus why I purchased). The only downside (otherwise would be 5 stars) is the small alligator clips that would be useless to you if you don’t have a small battery post to connect to. I do, but still added a zip tie to keep the clips secure, as even with the small post the clips as at their max.

This thing is worthless
If I could have rated it "0" stars, I would have. I live in a heavily wooded area and pack rats are often a problem for everyone here. After having the wiring under my hood chewed thru several times, I purchased this deterrent. It's made absolutely no difference. With the unit in place and properly working, I continued to have nightly invasions of pack rats under the hood of my truck, replacing the plug wires now 6 times, even with this unit in place. If you have a similar problem, I would not recommend this product. What seems to have worked for me is 1) parking my truck in a different spot. (Pack rats are very much creatures of habit!) 2) changing the plug wires from blue to black. (For whatever reason, they seem to prefer certain colors!) 3)Bright lighting in the spot where I park at night. (They're looking for a dark area safe from predators and don't like the light!) 4) Mixing up a solution of bleach and water and spraying my engine===particularly around the breather where they want to nest in my vehicle--heavily with it. 5) Removal of all traces of nesting materials each morning and then another spray down with the bleach water. 6) Placement of poison in bowls on the ground in the spot where I formerly parked. (I put it out at dusk and bowls have been empty come morning---I don't leave it out during the day because I don't want our pets to get into it.) After a full 8 days of doing all of the above, I am no longer being invaded.

Mice/Rodents Repellent
I know someone who had their electrical wires in their car eaten through by mice. He bought one of these and hasn’t had a problem since. I bought one for my car as a precaution.

So far so good
My only advice is not to slam the hood closed otherwise the unit will fall off the inside of the hood and there's no place for it to sit on top of the engine but with any luck rats are nowhere to be seen
