Do these have tiny hole in a back to use a spring loaded guide when using a drill press?

I don't have nine handy, but I don't recall a hole. I have objet used these to freshen up damaged threads on the bike. can imagine using a tap on a drill press but....???

Could i use this tool to tap a hole i plan to drill in a deore xt or xtr crank? someone suggested that xtrs are hollow cranks so it would not work.

The crank arms are hollow. These are designed to rethread the holes for the pedals.

What size drill bit should i use if i am drilling new holes on a crank to make it shorter before i use this tool? this is custom project for a kid.

I don't know the answer for what drill size, but something to consider, depending upon what crankset you are working with, some crankarms are hollow. Aluminum ones are more frequently hollow more than steel crankarms. So that is a variable you might want to research as well.
