Which one is better for the back massage? core or grid 2.0? core is a little longer, but i'd like to know which option is better in terms of firmness.

The Grid is twice as firm as the Core. That said, either will do a great job. What's more important is good technique. Done properly, you'll be hard-pressed to tell the difference (in results), especially if you're new to foam rollers.

What is the difference between this roller and the grid foam roller?

The CORE is solid foam and is softer than the hollow GRID rollers. The CORE is also available in longer lengths than the GRID rollers, useful if you want to lay lengthwise on the roller.
