Grade Crossing Signal Controller

It works great !

The media could not be loaded. I've had this sitting around for some time now, and I finally decided to wire it up! Sure wish i would have done this earlier, because this thing is just fantastic. Will detect trains in both directions and will shut off very quickly after the train passes depending on how far the sensors are from the crossing. I have mine set up so the lights will activate a few seconds before the train arrives. I know my wiring job looks like a mess, but it isn't very complicated after you get going. After installation, make sure the track wires are on the correct side, otherwise the train will pass the crossing and activate the wrong sensor. Only works on DC layouts. ( DCC Users: I've heard if you get a piece of DC track and connect the track wires on the controller, it should work. ) Make sure after you are finished to adjust the sensors' sensitivity, it really makes a difference. ( Side note, the crossing does activate if the room lights are off, thats a problem, but i dont normally run at night so it doesn't bother me. ) My crossing has two signals, the cantilever being from walthers, and the smaller signal being from an ebay seller. Definitely recommend!

So disappointed in the quality of the equipment. Followed the very sparse instructions - no joy!Only powers up if the train is moving in one direction, and the motion sensor is useless. Unit flashes constantly with or without the sensor installed. Sensitivity adjustment knobs made zero difference (with the sensor installed).Totally not worth the money.

This is more of an issue with the manufacters design than the part. The part works well with making the crossing work, but if you are running DCC there is no way to interface this to you system so you have to create a fake system to trigger the crossing gates.

Lights flash all the time still working out the bug as I have time.

The media could not be loaded. I purchased the Walthers grade crossing signal flashers and controller to add realism to my HO layout. I am sorry I didn't plan for these item BEOFRE I completed pretty much the entire project but such is life. Some of my garage-located layout is on a large workbench/desk and there is a portion supported by table legs which does have access beneath the tracks. Sadly, the vast majority of the wiring required gymnastics to reach and some homemade "tools" to retrieve hidden wires. Okay, the pluses for this system: when the work, they are fantastic; when they don't work, there's a lot of frustration. Ambient light affects photosensors (not a Walthers problem per se) but the sensitivity adjustments don't always solve the problem. In my case, the "eastbound" train turns the flashers "on" before the intersection and "off" after the intersection. The "westbound" train turns the flashers "on" before the intersection but one of two reactions occur once the train passes the intersection: 1. either the flashers do NOT go off or 2. the flashers go off while the train is still passing over the photosensor. Making adjustments to that photosensor (VRC on the controller) or the ambient light does not resolve the issue. I have the patience of Job but this system has me scratching my head more than usual. P.S. My layout is DC and uses a separate power pack for the Walthers crossing signals, not the power pack that operates the engines. I would think using a separate, inexpensive power pack would allow you to use this on a DCC layout as well.

The product is only for DC and I use DCC in my layout.
