Rescue: Daring Missions from On, Under and Above the Earth: 1

I pre-ordered this as soon as I saw it was coming. We have the two other books from this series and they have been huge favourites.We haven't read all the stories in this one yet but it's shaping up to be just as good.One caveat, the age range is given as 5-8. My children are 7 and 11 and have been a little spooked by some of the bad things that happen (e.g. earthquake levelling a school) so do be aware of that.

Excellent book, especially for my son who finds reading "boring". The short stories are interesting and informative. If you can drag your son off the Xbox for five minutes, then this is well worth it.

This was epic, said my 11 year old daughter. She liked the racing car story and the fire. She liked that it was short stories that you could dip in and out.

Kids love this series. Re-reading it again and again.

Adults will find this as interesting as children do, I think.Readable and accessible, this is short stories of rather exciting and dangerous real-life stories from around the world, rescues, involving people of all ages, from all walks of life, from areas of relative safety to those in war zones and hazardous terrain. In recent times and decades ago.With snippets of background for context, each story is a few pages in length, no sensationalism, the accounts are in plain English and you can read each quite quickly.They don't appear to be in any particular order - an index by year/location might have been useful for readers. You can read in any order or at random.I enjoyed the illustrations, the style of them and they broke things up and added some colour.There are others in the series as well, and these give young readers in particular a great overview of normal people becoming 'superheroes' and doing brave things for the right reasons.Ages 8 and above should have no trouble reading and understanding the material here.
