How does this compare to their "wash-in" version? I assume it would be more economical since it's not being diluted by a bunch of water?

Actually just the opposite... the Spray-On variety is simply a watered down version of the Wash-in, which means you are paying for a diluted product. I have had great results making my own Spray-in solution by using 1/3 Wash-in product and 2/3 water in my own spray bottle.

Can you spray it on a dry garment?

Spraying this on a dry (oops!) 100% polyester coat resulted in terrible spotting stains. Any ideas how to remove the stains? I've tried baking soda, vinegar, stain remover, etc. and the coat has been washed over three times. If anything, the spots look worse. I've ruined a brand new coat by forgetting to apply it to WET fabrics!

if you run out of the small spray bottle and wanted to refill, can the wash in work or should just buy a new bottle and spayer?

In a pinch, the wash in could work to refill the spray bottle but the sprayis a different formulation designed to work better as a spray.

Can this work on a polyester shower curtain ? If so, would it have to be applied often?

Used it on my London Fog raincoat (polyester). Not a petro-solvent vehicle; water soluble. So, no problem. Has a chemical smell for a few days as it dries and sets. Goes away in about 4 days. No discoloration.
