Zombie Survival Guide in pictures
Finally, after months of delays, the latest incarnation of zombie fact-ion from Max Brooks arrived. I sat down on the sofa with it, planning on just having a quick browse but I ended up reading the entire thing! I was pleasantly surprised to find that it is actually a graphic novel - I didn't really know what to expect when I pre-ordered it over a year ago. This takes tales from Brook's first novel, The Zombie Survival Guide, and retells the stories with fantastic black and white illustrations. There are chronological tales from across the globe dating fom 60,000 B.C to 1992; the stories are short, snippets which deliver the cold hard facts in brutal fashion. The book is totally engrossing and is without a doubt the best zombie graphic novel since the Walking Dead saga; the only reason I haven't given it 5 stars is because I don't think that that there are any new stories (I may be wrong as I read Zombie Survival Guide a couple of years ago but I certainly recognised all of them); it would have been nice to have had a couple of bonus tales. Whether a hardened Brooks fan or just interested in the genre you will definitely love this and will once again be left wondering what Brooks knows that the rest of us don't...

Teenage sons loved it
When I received this book I was really disappointed because it was just like a comic with hardly any text but I wrapped it up and gave it to my son at Xmas,he is 14 years old and loves it and so does his brother......

A good visual companion to the recorded attacks section in The Zombie Survival Guide
As a big fan of Max Brooks' The Zombie Survival Guide I enjoyed the section on recorded attacks where the author describes many different fictional incidents involving zombies. On discovery of this graphic novel I purchased it immediately as I found it an exciting prospect seeing these stories I read and love in a visual medium. The art is simple and clean with great shading highlighting depth (none of that scribbly Frank Miller stuff) which I liked but I thought that a bit of colour could have given the illustrations a bit more pop. For those who thought they would find every story from the recorded attacks section laid out visually in this graphic novel you are sadly mistaken. Only a few of the better ones have made it in, which is a shame due to all the stories being well written. I would have loved to have seen the story where a pilot crash lands and finds an old fort mentioned in an earlier story. Overall it's an entertaining experience but suffers a bit as the colourless illustrations (which aren't quite The Walking Dead detailed) fails to pull me in and keep me interested in each panel for very long. Plus lack of other great stories from the original book is a downer. Even so Max Brooks fans should definitely think about buying this book.

Disappointing
It seems that Max Brooks' publishers are unable to get him to actually write new content; but they're determined to milk his undead cash cow until the flesh necrotises.... This book contains *SOME* of the Recorded Attacks from the back of the Zombie Survival guide presented with comic-book illustrations to benefit those for whom big words are a challenge. But not even *ALL* the content from the Survival Guide is offered here, a side-by-side comparison shows several are missing. Perhaps so the publishers can wheel out "Illustrated Recorded Attacks Volume Two" in time for Xmas 2010... Buy the Zombie Survival Guide and World War Z - and nothing else. Everything else is just the same Survival Guide content rehashed into a desk calander, a comic, a deck of cards, a tie, shoelaces, anything they can think of. Just Say No.
