Awesome axe. Perfect size and weight.
Love this thing. It splits like a champ and it’s well-made. A tad expensive, but you get what you pay for.

My first Gransfor Bruks Axe
Just received my Gransfor Bruks Small Splitting Axe. This is the first axe I have owned of any kind. I have not put it to use but will get my chance once I get a cord of firewood delivered in the next few days. I bought this primarily for splitting firewood into smaller chunks for our wood stove (the firewood will already be split). This will also be taken with me on every camping trip. First impressions: Axe head: great quality and love that it's not machine made. The initials of the forger are EE. You can tell immediately this person takes pride in what they do. I love that it doesn't have "perfect" edges. Truly shows it's handmade. I can take a grinder to it if it really bugged me but it doesn't. Leather Sheath: I dont have the issues some others have voice where it comes out even when the button is clasped. It's soft and will age well after continue care and applying leather conditioner oil. Axe handle: I was a bit confused at first with the circular grooves but after reading the description on the Gransfor Bruk site it makes sense. I may sand it smooth if it bugs me enough but for now going to keep it as is.

Factory second?
Like other reviewers have said, some Gransfors Bruk products sold on Amazon appear to be factory seconds. That is probably why Gransfors won’t warranty those purchases. My example of the small splitting axe had its eye forged not concentric with the head. This caused the handle to be misaligned with the head. The handle was rotated appropriately 8 degrees. It would be dangerous to use it that way, so I returned it. I own the Gransfors Bruk splitting maul and both versions of the large splitting axe already. They were purchased from authorized retailers and they all arrived with exceptional build quality. I gave Amazon a try only because I had a gift card available. Surprisingly, the pricing isn’t even competitive, like one would expect it to be from Amazon. Gransfors Bruk makes fantastic splitting axes, but I’ll go back to authorized retailers for additional purchases.

Truly a great axe
I chose this as my first axe to invest in after using some cheaper standard store bought axes, it’s small size is great for camping/traveling and I gotta say, the design of the axe head is ridiculously efficient. I bought a 12 pound maul for like $70 at ace hardware and when trying to split the same round as in the picture, it just bounced right off like I was hitting a sledge hammer onto a rubber tire, great workout but not ideal in this case. This small splitting axe handles up to 24” inch rounds of Doug Fir roughly 16” thick with decent sized knots. I’ve taken it so many places and it’s made such light work of building many campfires. I will be investing in their larger version for home use on these larger rounds but am stuck debating between the large splitting axe or the maul, we'll see. Regardless, highly recommend this axe be added to your arsenal, fantastic tool for splitting logs, splitting timber and even driving tent stakes or other small tasks. Easy to maintain the edge, doesn’t need much sharpening honestly

Very nice, but you may want the large version
This is an excellent axe for its size. Red Oak up to 9" D or so and it's fine, but I wish I had purchased the larger version as it would be more versatile for our wood. Ideally owning both the large and the small, and the maul would be best as a set if you split serious quantities. This small one does have the benefit of being very light, no tiring out due to its weight, so you can swing this little axe all day long. Love the grooved texture on the handle, works really well.

Best Axe Made
I have several axes around my property since I have a lot of trees, and spend a fair amount of time chopping wood, whether it is splitting firewood, or bucking downed trees. This axe is clearly used for splitting wood, and that it does like a dream. You really cannot believe just how good this axe is at splitting wood until your try it. Yeah, it costs a bit more then others, but you will soon forget the price tag. You will never forget just how great this axe is every time you pick it up.

This product is junk
Save your money this product is not worth it .I watched a video on how they are made and I said to myself a 45 year old woodsman that I have to get one ....what did I receive this poorly made axe .I have all kinds and I'm vary disappointed in the fit and finish of this tool .I don't recommend this .

Great axe
This axe will not replace your maul for splitting large logs, but it is great for single or double-handed splitting of smaller logs and split logs in need of further splitting. The axe comes with a very useful handbook instructing on methods of stacking, splitting, axe care, and makers of each axe. I purchased this axe for my husband as a gift to enable him more splitting options. We have a maul that he used solely until he received this. We split wood from our land for use in a wood stove to heat our home in Maine.
